Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art OU's world class art museum! The University of Oklahoma’s Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is one of the finest university art museums in the United States.

Strengths of the nearly 16,000-object permanent collection (including the approx. 3,300-object Eugene B. Adkins Collection and the approx. 4,500-object James T. Bialac Native American Art Collection) are the Weitzenhoffer Collection of French Impressionism, 20th century American painting and sculpture, traditional and contemporary Native American art, art of the Southwest, ceramics, photography, contemporary art, Asian art and graphics from the 16th century to the present. Temporary exhibitions are mounted throughout the year that explore the art of various periods and cultures.

Meet Brad Stevens, Head of Exhibitions and Collections Services!

We asked Brad what he cherishes most about working at the Fred and what makes his position special:

“I have been working at the FJJMA for 18 years. During that time, being able to have an up-close and personal relationship with the FJJMA collections, as well as the traveling exhibitions that come through the museum, is something I truly cherish.

This position allows me to not only handle and care for the artworks, but also to continue learning something new every single day.

As someone who is constantly curious, I feel very fortunate to have a job that allows me to keep learning, exploring, and working with art every day.”

One week until "From the Australian Desert: Contemporary Aboriginal Painting" opens at the Fred!

Opening October 16, this exhibition brings together more than 120 works by more than 80 Aboriginal artists, exploring the history and ongoing legacy of the Papunya painting movement.

Beginning in Australia’s Central Desert in 1971, the movement grew from artists translating ancestral designs and stories connected to Country and Tjukurrpa into contemporary painting. Today, Papunya Tula Artists continues this legacy, supporting artists and communities while sharing these works with audiences around the world.

The exhibition invites visitors to look beyond the surface of these paintings and consider the connections between people, place, ancestry, and the past and present.

We can’t wait to welcome you to "From the Australian Desert" beginning next week!

Our October 250 Highlight has arrived!

As we continue celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, explore our rotating installation highlighting 250 years of American art from the museum’s collection. Each month, a new work is featured, offering a different perspective on the nation’s artistic history.
