Today, we celebrate the arguably greatest achievement in human history. 54 years ago today, Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the surface of Earth’s nearest astronomical neighbor, the first humans to ever reach another planet.
The landing site for Apollo 11 was designated by Elk City, Oklahoma native, University of Oklahoma graduate, and American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow Mareta West, the world’s first female Astrogeologist.
The CASC is proud of the achievements of all those responsible for this incredible achievement and can’t wait to highlight the importance of the contributions of incredible women like Mareta West that made it possible in our new institution!
54 years ago today, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on another world. As Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon's surface, Michael Collins orbited 69 miles above them becoming the "loneliest man in history."
