Join us tonight, 5-7PM! The Jane Hartsook Gallery is pleased to present 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑊𝑎𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑠, recent ceramic work by Ryan Flores.

On view through October 30, 2026

Flores’s work adopts a painterly visual language mimicking the chiaroscuro and rich surface textures characteristic of historical painting. The artwork entices viewers through vibrant color and material sumptuousness, and offers a captivating experience that balances historical reverence with intimate self-expression.

Ryan Flores received his BFA in Ceramics from California State University, Long Beach and an MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University. Recent exhibitions include “The Undergrowth” at Moskowitz Bayse, Los Angeles and “Rising from the Garden” curated by Art Production Fund at Frieze Projects: Set Seen. Notable group exhibitions include “Clay Pop” at Jeffrey Deitch Gallery and “Wayfinder” at Craft Contemporary Museum, both in Los Angeles, as well as participating in “Shelf Life” at Marlborough Gallery, London. In addition, he has participated in residencies such as Lighthouse Works and Vermont Studio Center, where he received the Harpo Foundation Native American Residency Fellowship.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Flores will lead a one-day workshop at Greenwich House Pottery on Saturday, September 19, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Details on our website.

Join glaze designer Cory Brown for a hands-on, informative workshop exploring AMACO’s rich range of cone 5-6 mid-range glazes. From fan favorites like Potter’s Choice to exciting new lines such as Cosmos and Phase Glazes, this session offers a unique opportunity to experiment, learn, and play with color and surface.

Participants will get an overview of AMACO’s glaze families through a guided presentation and demo, including tips for reading glaze labels, layering effects, and best practices for application. Then, you’ll get to glaze your own bisque-fired work using a wide selection of AMACO pint samples—many of which will remain in the studio for continued exploration.

We are thrilled to welcome Yunting Li to Greenwich House Pottery for Blue & White Porcelain Painting: Traditional Cobalt Underglaze Techniques.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the timeless beauty of traditional blue and white porcelain through the use of cobalt underglaze painting techniques. Drawing inspiration from both Chinese and Japanese porcelain traditions, students will learn how to create elegant brushwork, expressive line quality, tonal variation, and decorative motifs on porcelain.

The workshop will cover essential techniques including brush control, line drawing, flooding, and traditional shading methods, while also introducing students to my signature approach to porcelain painting. Participants will complete and decorate their own porcelain piece and gain practical knowledge they can continue applying in their own ceramic practice. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced ceramic artists interested in expanding their surface decoration techniques.

Yunting Li is a Los Angeles-based porcelain artist and glaze specialist trained in Jingdezhen, China and Arita, Japan, specializing in traditional blue-and-white underglaze painting. She works as a glaze designer at Laguna Clay & Glaze Company and teaches at AMOCA, leading workshops across the U.S. on glaze chemistry and ceramic technique.
