The Steel Deck Showdown takes over USS LST 393 this week, bringing volleyball to one of the most unforgettable venues in Michigan, right on the weather deck of a World War II landing ship!

— August 28, 1960: Highway 16 tested her main engine and cast off from Chicago’s Coast Guard Dock at 10:15 a.m. She cleared the locks, passed the crib, and turned to course 105°. At 11:56, the log recorded: “Stop engines—Seven Mile.”
