The Bidwell House Museum, set in the Berkshire hills of Western Massachusetts, is an elegant Georgian saltbox originally built circa 1760 as a parsonage. Authentically restored, filled with an 18th century object collection, and surrounded by 192 acres of beautiful grounds and hiking trails, the museum tells the story of the early settlement of the Berkshires. This weekend, August 15 and 16, 1770s era living historians will be spending the weekend at the Bidwell House property recreating the work and discipline of British/Continental Army scouting parties and advanced piquet guards (sent ahead of the main armies in the field), while living 100% out of their packs and sleeping under the stars. Though this event isn't meant for the public, if you are hiking at the Museum this weekend you may come across the reenactors and hear musket fire. The muskets will be firing blanks and visitors to the grounds are welcomed to ask questions of the living historians they meet. Thanks everyone!
