Sandisfield Arts Center A 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to preserve our historic building and provide cultural and educational programs for our community.

Our programs include visual and performance arts, education, music, literature, nature and more. Located in our historic building, the Sandisfield Arts Center was originally a Baptist Church and then a Jewish Synagogue. Our Arts Center is now handicap accessible.

Jazz pianist, composer, educator, and activist Noah Baerman’s tenacity and his cutting edge yet soulful music have made him an inspiring figure to a growing legion of admirers. Baerman is a jazz pianist, composer, educator, and activist who has released sixteen acclaimed albums as a leader and several more with ensembles including Trio 149 and Envisage Collective.

Ten albums feature bassist Henry Lugo, his longtime collaborator performing with him this Sunday!

Although no proof of need is required, community tickets are made available for those who would not otherwise be able to afford to attend this event. If you can afford to pay the regular ticket price for this event, please do. We rely on ticket sales to fund our events.

Our inaugurtal Contra dance event! Calling the dances, the popular Jon Greene with fiddle music by Eric Martin. The great contra pianist Susan Creighton from Greenfield will be joining for the dance.

No experience needed–just come for a new adventure with friends guided by friends with feet-on knolwedge of such things.

About the program

The program will be a traditional contra dance with live music, tailored to the general level of experience of the attending dancers. Besides contras, the program may include other folk dance formations such as scatter mixers, circle dances, square dances and Virginia reels. All dances will be taught in advance and the dance
figures prompted during the dance. More complex figures will also be taught and demonstrated. If role terms are needed in a dance, the terms larks and robins will be used where “larks” replaces the traditional, “gents”, and “robins” replaces the traditional, “ladies”. Contra dancing can be quite aerobic so dancers are encouraged
to dress appropriately.

The Thistles quartet is Terry Keevil oboe and duduk (Armenian oboe), Lesley Rosenthal electric violin, Jaye Alison Moscariello vocals, and Bill Taylor piano. Clarinetist Gerold Mohn is joining us! Their sound blends classical, jazz and show tune influences in a unique and often unexpected way that is inspiring and a joy to hear. In addition to many of Bill Taylor’s works, they play works by Ralph Towner, Laura Nyro, Terry Keevil, and other composers and songwriters.

🎞️ This film traces the rise and fall of the German American Bund, exposing the fascist threat in 1930s America. Nominated for an Emmy and a Columbia-DuPont Award.

More about the film:

In February 1939, more than 20,000 Americans filled Madison Square Garden for an event billed as a “Pro-American Rally.” Images of George Washington hung next to swastikas and speakers railed against the “Jewish-controlled media” and called for a return to a racially “pure” America. The keynote speaker was Fritz Kuhn, head of the German American Bund. N**i Town, USA tells the largely unknown story of the Bund, which had scores of chapters in suburbs and big cities across the country and represented what many believe was a real threat of fascist subversion in the United States. The Bund held joint rallies with the Ku Klux Klan and ran dozens of summer camps for children centered around N**i ideology and imagery. Its melding of patriotic values with virulent anti-Semitism raised thorny issues that we continue to wrestle with today.
