We now call this the Taft House (across the street from The Asa Waters' Mansion).

But in 1908, it was where President Taft's Aunt Delia Torrey lived and where Taft's mother Louise Torrey passed away in 1907.

However, Louise Torrey Taft is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her body was transported back to Cincinnati to be interred alongside her husband, Alphonso Taft.

West Millbury Bus Tour

On the gorgeous late spring Saturday of June 13, Millbury Historical Society bus tours of West Millbury were conducted at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

Once again this was done to honor the town of Millbury, our great nation’s birthday and the anniversary of the Asa Waters Mansion.

Frank Gagliardi and Jeff Dore were guides. They and the tourists got out at three stops: Old Common, Grass Hill School and the First Congregational Church where Mary Lou Mulhane, Maureen Army and Gary Francis and Jerilyn Stead greeted them with West Millbury exposition.

The Millbury Historical Society wishes to thank Judy O'Connor and the Friends of the Millbury Seniors for using their buses, and another shout out of gratitude to Judy O'Connor and Steve McFaul for donating their time and driving them.

Millbury Historical Society Honored with Citation!

At the Second Annual Waters Farm Remembrance Day held on Sunday June 14th at the Waters Farm in Sutton, the Millbury Historical Society was honored with a citation.

This was presented by the Massachusetts State Senate and House of Representatives in recognition of the Waters Family of the North Parish Sutton (now Millbury) because of the posthumous contributions the Waters Family made during the American Revolution.

Those efforts and sacrifices remain foundational pillars of our freedom.

Millbury Historical Society President Mary Lou Mulhane and Sheila Corderio were proud to accept the citations on behalf of the Society.

The citations were offered by Senators Ryan Fattman and Michael Moore and Representative Paul Frost.

On Thursday, June 11th, the Millbury Historical Society held its Annual Meeting in the Asa Waters Mansion.

After a short business meeting presided over by society president Mary Lou Mulhane, the featured speaker Keith Downer introduced his program entitled “Famous Inventors of Millbury.”

The presentation was very absorbing. Keith talked in detail about how the mills came to be in Millbury and that, when our portion of Sutton became Millbury, there were already sixteen mills that used to be in Sutton that now were in Millbury.

Keith had a detailed slide show to demonstrate the mill particulars he talked about. It was very interactive as he asked the crowd questions and opinions at times.

He then went on to show the inventors who came from Millbury and explain how they went about getting their inventions recognized.

Refreshments with a patriotic theme were served after Keith Downer’s production as it was Millbury’s 113th Birthday, The 200th Anniversary of the Asa Waters Mansion AND, of course, the 250th Anniversary of our great nation!

1955 – Millbury’s Little League All-Stars won four games to capture the District 2 title, before bowing out of the State Tournament on a close 4-2 loss to Mountain All-Stars in a sectional final. WAYNE BERGERON was the pitching and hitting star for Millbury in the tournament.

1962 – FRANK PARELLA fanned 16 batters and allowed only one hit, pitching Leicester Junior College to a 1-0 win over Worcester Junior College.

1967 – BILLY WITKOWSKI of Savings Bank no-hit Millbury Motor, 3-0, in Millbury Little action.

1968 – High Carbon’s JOE GOLINSKI pitched his second no-hitter of the season, as he set down Local 3426, 6-0, in a Millbury Little League feature game.

1975 – In Millbury Senior League action, SEAN MCLAUGHLIN struck out 12 and allowed only 3 hits as New Home Builders defeated Old Time Inn, 4-0.

2010 – Junior centerfielder TORI MILES earned a berth on the T&G Super Team All-Stars, after leading the SWCL with a .570 batting average and stealing 37 bases in 20 game.
