Today, we honor Juneteenth—a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration marking the end of slavery in the United States and recognizing the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and opportunity.

At the Collin County History Museum, we believe history helps us better understand one another and the communities we share. Juneteenth reminds us of the importance of preserving stories, learning from the past, and continuing to build a more inclusive future.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception of Service Beyond Duty. We were honored to welcome our community for an evening of reflection, remembrance, and appreciation as we explored the stories of Native American veterans who served with courage and distinction.

We especially enjoyed hearing from our incredible speakers, whose personal insights, stories, and perspectives brought an even deeper meaning to this powerful exhibit. Their words reminded us of the sacrifice, resilience, and service represented throughout the exhibition.

There's still time to celebrate America's 250th birthday by exploring local history across Collin County!

Guests ages 5–99 are invited to visit 9 participating museums, complete each museum's activity or experience, and collect a different limited-edition commemorative patch at each location.

✨ The program is completely free to participate and runs while supplies last.

Don't forget to grab your brochure, start at any participating museum, and collect all the patches in any order!

🇺🇸 Happy Flag Day from the Collin County History Museum! 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate the American flag—a powerful symbol of freedom, unity, and the enduring spirit of our nation.

⭐ Did You Know?
The first official United States flag was adopted by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. While the exact designer remains a topic of debate, the most famous story credits Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross with sewing the first American flag after being approached by George Washington and a congressional committee.

The flag has evolved over time as new states joined the Union, growing from 13 stars to the 50 stars we recognize today. Yet its meaning remains the same—a reminder of the people, sacrifices, and ideals that have shaped our country’s history.

As we honor Flag Day, we invite you to reflect on the stories behind the Stars and Stripes and the generations of Americans who have served under its banner.

Tonight!

Join the Collin County History Museum for the opening reception of Service Beyond Duty, a special exhibit honoring Native American military service and the powerful stories of veterans from North Texas and Oklahoma.

The exhibit features military artifacts, personal stories, portraits, and interpretive panels highlighting the contributions, sacrifice, and legacy of Native American veterans across generations. Created by For Gallantry & Service as a companion exhibit to the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian's Why We Serve, the exhibit also includes portraits and interpretive panels by historian and artist Colin Kimball.
