What can a cemetery tell us about a town? 🪦

Quite a lot!

Cemeteries can reveal the names of families who shaped a community, how families were connected, and even clues about how Matthews changed over time.

Every headstone has a story, and together, those stories help us understand the history of our town.

Escape the summer heat and celebrate Christmas in July at the Matthews Heritage Museum! From July 18–31, enjoy a bit of holiday cheer and a peek into the North Carolina roots of this whimsical tradition. 🎄☀️

Learn about how Keystone Camp in Brevard, NC hosted the very first Christmas in July in 1933, and how the idea spread across the country. Our mini-exhibit explores the quirky history behind this summertime celebration.

The museum will have holiday music, a few festive decorations and, best of all, it's nice and cool inside! ❄️
