“One always has hope for human nature”

The Book Fairies are sharing copies of Sleeping Murder by Agatha Christie across both the UK and the USA today! The fairies are celebrating 50 years since the novel’s posthumous publication, after Agatha had filed it away for over thirty years.

Who will be lucky enough to spot one of these beautiful books today?

About the book:

A strange house. A ghost from the past. As soon as she moves into Hillside, Gwenda knows there’s something strange about this house. Despite her best efforts to modernize the house, she only succeeded in dredging up its past. Worse, she felt an irrational sense of terror every time she climbed the stairs.

A sealed room. A hidden door. The apparition of a young woman being strangled.
But strangest of all – this all seems quite familiar.

In fear, Gwenda turned to Miss Marple to exorcise her ghosts. Have the two of them dredged up a perfect crime committed many years before?

The killer may have gotten away with murder. But Miss Marple is never far behind.

🚨📚 THE BOOK FAIRIES ARE BREAKING THE RULES… 📚🚨

The Book Fairies are in trouble! We’ve been caught reading banned books. Do you want to join us? Now is the time for us to share our banned books with the rest of the world! If you love breaking the rules then this event is for you…

This Banned Books Week (4-10 October) we’re celebrating some of the books that have been challenged, censored, removed from shelves and taken away from readers.

And what better way to mark the week than by putting them back into the hands of readers?

Our Banned Books Week begins soon and we are encouraging YOU to join us and use to share your favourites, and also any book drops you make as part of the week. Fellow rebellious readers will hopefully find them and pass them on!

🚫 Books that have sparked debate.
🚫 Books that have made people uncomfortable.
🚫 Books that have challenged the status quo.
🚫 Books that someone, somewhere, decided people shouldn’t read.

We disagree 😉

So keep your eyes peeled.

Because books are meant to be read.

Even the controversial ones.

Especially the controversial ones. 📚🔥

“We face a challenge right now, you and I, that is even greater in aspect and scope than a global war. It is a battle for our house and home, and for our future on this planet. It is a moment for all of us to step up: through our personal effort, through the innovations we create, through the policies we support, through the people we vote for. You and I can be a part of the Next Great Generation. We can save Earth—for us. Let’s get to work.”

Today’s green book recommendation:

Unstoppable: Harnessing Science to Change the World by Bill Nye

About the book: Just as World War II called an earlier generation to greatness, so the climate crisis is calling today's rising youth to action: to create a better future.

In Unstoppable, Bill Nye crystallizes and expands the message for which he is best known and beloved. That message is that with a combination of optimism and scientific curiosity, all obstacles become opportunities, and the possibilities of our world become limitless. With a scientist's thirst for knowledge and an engineer's vision of what can be, Bill Nye sees today's environmental issues not as insurmountable, depressing problems but as chances for our society to rise to the challenge and create a cleaner, healthier, smarter world. We need not accept that transportation consumes half our energy, and that two-thirds of the energy you put into your car is immediately thrown away out the tailpipe. We need not accept that dangerous emissions are the price we must pay for a vibrant economy and a comfortable life. Above all, we need not accept that we will leave our children a planet that is dirty, overheated, and depleted of resources. As Bill shares his vision, he debunks some of the most persistent myths and misunderstandings about global warming. When you are done reading, you'll be enlightened and empowered. Chances are, you'll be smiling, too, ready to join Bill and change the world.

If you pick up the audiobook you are in for a treat as it’s narrated by Bill Nye!
