When her 21-year-old cousin Andrii Rachok was killed by Russian forces, American-Ukrainian singer Kelsie Kimberlin couldn’t finish the song she wanted to write for him. So she went to Ukraine.

Along the frontline she meets soldiers, commanders, public figures and ordinary people living through the full-scale invasion. Under drone and missile attacks, she visits Andrii’s grave. What began as a search for answers becomes a journey toward forgiveness and toward the understanding that every Ukrainian defending their country is a star.

🎬 Directed by Iryna Pravylo Iryna Pravylo
⏱ 80 min

What does it mean to look the enemy in the eye and still hold on to hope?

This deeply human documentary takes us beyond the frontline headlines and into the lives of those living through war. We meet them in church, at home, in front of an artist’s canvas, and inside armored vehicles. Their stories are raw and painful, but full of strength and unbreakable faith in victory

🎬 Cuba & Alaska — a documentary film directed by Yehor Troyanovskyi — will be screened as part of the Ukrainian Film Festival LA on Sunday, October 18 at 1:30 PM.

The film follows two Ukrainian military paramedics, Cuba and Alaska, who volunteered to defend Ukraine. On the front line, they face pain, loss, and danger — but also friendship, love, and the strength to dream of a future without war.

Filmed over several years during Russia’s full-scale invasion, the documentary captures their lives between the front lines and rare moments of respite.

More than a film about war, Cuba & Alaska is a story of resilience, human connection, and the determination to keep living despite everything.
