Alden Dow’s creativity extended beyond architecture. He also enjoyed photography, color theory, and model trains, and was fascinated by mobiles! Alden drew inspiration from American modern artist Alexander Calder to create his own hanging sculptures (as seen in the top left corner of this photograph).

During this summer’s Mid-Mod Makers Camp, children will make their own mid-century modern–inspired mobiles using air-dry clay! If this sounds like something your kiddo would enjoy, register them for camp today: https://www.ljhistory.org/event-details/mid-mod-makers-camp
