Liberty Science Center (LSC.org) is a 300,000-square-foot learning center located in Liberty State Park on the Jersey City bank of the Hudson near the Statue of Liberty. More than 750,000 students, teachers, and parents visit Liberty Science Center each year, and tens of thousands more participate in the Center's off-site and online programs.

Heads up, space travelers: The planetarium will temporarily close Sept 8 until Sept 25 for some exciting renovations and upgrades. Including switching from bulbs to lasers in the projectors—making them significantly brighter and vivid. Stay tuned for what’s next! 👀🌠

Congratulations to the 30 graduates of the Partners in Science program, Summer 2026! 🔬🥼

These 11th and 12th grade students completed 8-week mentorships in regional labs and universities, conducting research and participating in independent projects.

"Through this experience, I saw firsthand how engineering and medicine can intersect and address meaningful clinical problems," said Simran Marwaha of County Prep High School in Jersey City. Marwaha was one of 30 students at the Partners in Science symposium on Saturday, August 22, and welcomed guests to the symposium.

U.S. Senator Cory Booker visited Liberty Science Center to announce $559,000 in federal funding to support a new portable planetarium initiative, expanding access to immersive STEM education for students and communities throughout New Jersey.

As home to the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, LSC inspires hundreds of thousands of students each year through onsite, offsite, and virtual programming. This new funding will help bring that experience across the state with a portable dome and two specially designed vehicles that will deliver astronomy and Earth science programming directly to schools, community centers, after-school organizations, and more.

During his visit, Senator Booker experienced the portable planetarium firsthand alongside 9th grader Shanice Grazette, one of LSC’s Neer Peers through its partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County. Shanice shared some of what she has learned through the summer program as they explored the universe together inside the dome.

Senator Booker also toured Liberty Science Center with President and CEO, Paul Hoffman and visited the Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium, continuing a longtime connection to the wonder of space and science.

“Senator Booker has long shared his love and amazement for the vastness of the universe, other galaxies, and space missions, a passion that dates to his own childhood,” said Paul Hoffman, President and CEO of Liberty Science Center. “This very generous grant to our center for the new portable planetarium programming is a sterling manifestation of his commitment to ensure that countless thousands of children across New Jersey can experience the same wonders of science.”

We are deeply grateful to Senator Booker for championing this investment in STEM education and helping LSC bring the wonder of the universe to even more people throughout New Jersey. 🚀

On Thursday, August 13, Spotify invited 400 of Phoebe Bridgers’ biggest fans to Liberty Science Center for what they thought would be an exclusive listening experience for her new album, Lost Weekend. What they didn’t know was that Bridgers herself had one more surprise in store!

Bridgers made a personal appearance and performed an acoustic set featuring new tracks “Lost Boys,” “Kill Me,” “Liberty Tree,” and “The Governor’s Waltz,” and crowd-favorite, “Scott Street.” What began as an exclusive album listening event became an out-of-this-world night in the nation’s largest planetarium! 🪐✨
