For generations of students in Mecklenburg County and points beyond, a field trip to Discovery Place has been a rite of passage. Field trips to Discovery Place have sparked curiosity, promoted exploration and brought learning to life.

Last year alone, more than 60,000 students walked through our doors to experience the wonder of Discovery Place. That’s 60,000 formative “a-ha” moments and cherished core memories formed in our own community.

So, tell us: what was YOUR first Discovery Place memory?

More than 655,000 visits. One simple idea: museums are for everyone.

Through our Welcome program, Discovery Place has offered $3 admission to visitors receiving EBT or WIC benefits for more than a decade. Each of those visits is a family building something together, a child meeting a new animal friend or a curious teen asking one more question.

We’re grateful to the community partners and supporters who help us pursue this mission. Because science and curiosity should always be accessible.

Worldwide Day of Play is coming, and this year we’re going prehistoric 🦖

At Discovery Place Kids, we believe play is how children learn best – and this “holiday” is our favorite excuse to prove it. Young visitors can stomp through a Dino stomper obstacle course, build towers wearing dinosaur hands, design their own dino feet to take home and dress up for our Big Fun Dance Party.

All day Saturday, September 26, at Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham and Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville.

Vroom vroom, incoming pit stop 🏎️

At Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville, children can climb behind the wheel of a real race car and imagine the checkered flag before they even learn to ride a bike 🏁

Bring your future racer in for a spin – plan your visit today!

☀️ This September at Discovery Place Kids, children can create their own Dino Blues sun print – placing a dinosaur shape on paper and letting sunlight work its magic to reveal a glowing blue silhouette. Along the way, they’ll explore shapes, patterns and a little science too.

Part of our Dino Days celebration, all month long and free with admission! 🦖

Meet our newest patients: they’re stuffed, snuggly and in very good hands. 🧸 At the Pet Vet Animal Clinic, children put on child-sized scrubs, read real X-rays and give checkups from nose to tail. Plan your visit and bring your little vet in for a shift – furry cuddles guaranteed!
