Teen Artist Zainab Basit’s artworks 'Wailing' (2024) and 'Steel Wings' (2024) warn against irreversible transformations in how we relate to nature, focusing on the impacts to animals from often brutal industrial animal farming. Zainab asks visitors to consider, “When does a creature become a commodity, something to be exploited for human gain, rather than a sentient being deserving of respect and protection?”

Experience this artwork in person inside the Teen Council 14th Biennial Exhibition, OUT OF STOCK 🛒, on view at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston through October 19, 2025 🗓

Visitors dropping by CAMH’s galleries this Saturday, July 5 between 1–4PM 🗓 have the chance to participate in an Open Studio session using mixed media materials to decorate a small pot as inspired by Basit’s ‘Steel Wings’ ⚙️🪴🔩

Now on view Around Houston in Houston’s Midtown! Teacher Advisory Group’s ‘Threat of Joy’, previously featured in Houston Chronicle, is officially on view in Mid Main Lofts Gallery. 🖼

Threat of Joy is a collaborative exhibition of student and teacher artwork showcasing joy and rebellion organized by Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH)’s fourth cohort of the Teacher Advisory Group (TAG). The thought-provoking work in the exhibition is made to fight oppression, as a reminder to create in spite of a lack of motivation, and to choose joy when the pressures of the world can feel heavy and overwhelming.

Experience the works of our Teacher Advisory Group and their students at Mid Main located on 3550 Main St. through September 4, 2025 🗓 For gallery hours and more information, visit https://camh.org/event/threat-of-joy-teacher-advisory-group-exhibition/🔗

“The work is meant to be overwhelming, symbolizing how we are constantly bombarded with content on the internet and social media.” says artist Bells Bosell. “We live in a very consumer driven society, and I wanted to capture that by having every screen filled, showing how many options and avenues we are given to consume. Our consumerist culture makes it seem like there is an endless abundance of things, but that’s an illusion. In reality, our habits of consumption have disastrous consequences to our health and planet.”

Visitors can experience Bosell’s work in person within the Teen Council 14th Biennial Exhibition OUT OF STOCK at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston through October 19, 2025.

Dropping by tomorrow? Join us in the galleries from 1–4PM for a special Drop-In Experience where visitors are invited to create bookmarks inspired by the glitch lines and images featured in Bosell's work! 🖼
