One month left to experience Rhonda’s Baby 🌹

Bria Lauren’s deeply personal exhibition remains on view at FLATS through September 26.

A visual prayer dedicated to Black daughters loving and healing from Black mamas who don’t know how to love them back, Rhonda’s Baby moves through motherhood, daughterhood, ancestral memory, forgiveness, and the complicated work of healing what has been passed down.

If you haven’t had a chance to spend time with the exhibition—or have been meaning to come back—there’s still time.

SHOOT THE S**T PHOTO CRIT is heading to FRIENDS Gallery! 📸

This round, we’re joining forces in the East End for an evening of photography, conversation, and community critique. Featuring Jessica Carolina González (Jessica González) as our guest critic, alongside FLATS organizers Cass + Jeremy.

A space for the People! Friends Gallery is a volunteer-run artist collective focused on Trans, Q***r, BIPOC, and Houston artists. As an anti-imperialist and de-colonial space, they are interested in art as a place of community, culture, political education, and a method to shift and improve the conditions of oppressed people.

Want to present?

We’re opening 10 critique slots (first come, first serve) for photographers at any stage in their practice. Digital and physical work are both welcome, with approximately 8 minutes of discussion and feedback per photographer.

Participants please RSVP + submit your work through the link in bio.

Don’t have work to show? Come anyway!
Critique is just as much about learning how to look, listen, and talk about photographs as it is about presenting your own. Come hang out, join the conversation, and support your fellow photographers. Attendees please RSVP through the link in bio so we can plan seating.

📍 FRIENDS Gallery
📅 Thursday, September 10th
⏰ 6:00–8:30 PM
Crit begins at 6:15 PM

This event is pay-what-you-can. Donation QR codes for both FLATS and FRIENDS will be available throughout the evening. Supporting these community spaces helps keep programming like this accessible and sustainable.

Thank you to everyone who came out Friday night for the opening of Bria Lauren’s Rhonda’s Baby.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who spent the evening with us, shared conversation, and helped hold space for this powerful and vulnerable body of work. Through portraiture, storytelling, and installation, Rhonda’s Baby invites us into a meditation on Black motherhood, daughterhood, healing, and the possibilities of grace.

- [ ] A special thanks to the hard work of the artist, Laura & Rich Earle , and Ashley DeHoyos Sauder

🌹 Rhonda’s Baby remains on view through September 26.
