Sicardi Ayers Bacino

Sicardi Ayers Bacino Houston-based Sicardi Gallery features modern and contemporary work by artists from Latin America. www.sicardigallery.com

Sicardi Gallery was founded in Houston in 1994 by María Ines Sicardi. Today the gallery is a partnership that includes Allison Ayers and Carlos Bacino as well as María Ines Sicardi. The gallery features modern and contemporary work by artists connected in diverse ways to Latin America, and who range from emerging and mid-career artists to major art historical figures like Gego and Jesús Rafael Sot

o. These artists have exhibited widely in museums and institutions internationally and are regularly included in art fairs and major art world events, including Documenta and major biennials from São Paulo to Venice. We work directly with our artists, coordinating exhibitions in the gallery as well as in museums and other institutions, and also support public art projects and publications. Since its inception the gallery has sought to reveal challenging links that connect recognized modernists and younger artists from across Latin America, and to explore these relationships in monographic and thematic exhibitions that bring the work to ever-wider audiences in the United States, Europe and elsewhere. This is also achieved through lectures and other projects that complement our exhibition program.

Wishing gallery artist Gustavo Díaz a Happy Birthday.
Díaz presents his findings through intricate, abstract works on paper and installations that map the conceptual connections between disparate, yet related, theories. Through this intense artistic and academic journey, he has examined subjects such as the study of Chaos Theory, in particular issues related to Ilya Prigogine’s concept of Dissipative Structures, for which Prigogine was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1977, as well as René Thom’s Theory of Catastrophes, focusing on the rupture of linearity and the emergence of “the new” through discontinuity processes.

Remembering Carlos Cruz-Diez on his birthday, August 17, 1923. Widely regarded as a master of 20th- and 21st-century art, Cruz-Diez transformed the understanding of color through groundbreaking theory and practice. Across extensive series, he explored the nuances of chromatic phenomena, inviting viewers to recognize their own power to generate and dissolve color through perception.
