io. to Victoria Woodhull is located on the west wall of the museum. Woodhull, born in Homer, Ohio, was the first woman to own a newspaper, own a stock brokerage, to address Congress, and to run for President of the United States in 1872. The museum hosts Victorian tea parties, lectures, special exhibits, and community events.

TODAY! Join us for the final Music4U! concert of the summer 🎼

It’s time for the solution to last Saturday's mystery object 🔎

It was a wooden stethoscope! 🩺

Before the modern stethoscopes we know today, doctors used simple wooden tubes to listen to sounds inside the body, including the heartbeat and breathing. This early medical instrument is a fascinating reminder of how much medicine and doctors’ tools have changed over time.

Celebrating Women’s Equality Day: Remembering Victoria Woodhull
On August 26, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day; a day honoring the achievements of women throughout history and recognizing the ongoing pursuit of equal rights. Here in Licking County, we are proud to remember one of America’s remarkable women’s rights pioneers: Victoria Woodhull.

Born in Homer, Ohio, Victoria Woodhull became a trailblazer as an and advocate for women’s suffrage, and the first woman to run for President of the United States in 1872. At a time when women were denied the right to vote and faced countless barriers, Woodhull used her voice to challenge expectations and fight for greater equality.

The Robbins Hunter Museum honors Victoria Woodhull’s legacy with the Victoria Woodhull Memorial Clock Tower, the only clock tower memorial dedicated to her. Standing as a reminder of her courage, ambition, and determination, the clock tower celebrates the lasting impact of a woman who dared to imagine a different future.

Next Sunday, join us for a beautiful evening of free music featuring Ucelli Duo! Cellists Cora Kuyvenhoven and Mary Davis will fill the summer air with a delightful performance on the grounds of the Robbins Hunter Museum. This concert is in partnership with the Newark-Granville Symphony Orchestra.

Welcome to another edition of Spotlight Saturday! 🔦

This week’s Spotlight Saturday reveals last week’s mystery object: a pen wiper! Before modern pens and disposable writing supplies, pen wipers were used to clean excess ink from the nib of a dip pen, helping writers keep their handwriting neat and smudge-free. Often crafted with decorative fabrics and thoughtful designs, these small objects show how even everyday tools could be both practical and beautiful.

Starting September 17, we’ll be in Our Fraternity Era. Before we were the Robbins Hunter Museum, this house was home to two Denison University fraternities.

If these walls could talk, the stories they would tell! We can’t wait to share them with you during this limited-time exhibition, running September 17 through October 8.

A Preview Reception will be held on Thursday, September 17. The time and additional details will be announced soon.
