One of our most meaningful and rewarding programs is the Newark Earthworks field trip. Each year, we welcome more than 200 students to the site for an immersive exploration of the earthworks, highlighting the ingenuity, knowledge, and achievements of the Hopewell Culture.

The most rewarding part of this work is watching students become actively engaged—asking questions, making connections, and discovering for themselves. This blog highlights one approach to connecting students with the past by encouraging curiosity and observation as powerful tools for learning.

The Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks are rife with educational opportunity. But what happens when we let students just look?
