Free Spirit Ghost Image: A Solo Exhibition by Curt Prudden

"I am drawn to the experience of memories created during strong emotional events and how we recall and interpret them. My work attempts to capture the fragment of memory behind the eye—the ghost image left as our mind tries to attach reason and resolve the purpose and meaning of events. I am particularly intrigued by themes surrounding the boundary of the physical and spiritual world, the chaos and beauty of our existence in nature, and the language and meaning of symbols."

With his new work and show, Free Spirit Ghost Image, Curt Prudden captures what is left in the mind’s eye after powerful events occur. Come to Cocoon during September First Friday and see this stunning exploration of his introspective mixed media work that delves into themes of physical and spiritual boundaries, our existence in nature and the significance of symbols. Join us for this special event!

Take in the amazing micro textile work of featured Michigan artist, Timnah Dockery at our next event Small Matters! Attention to detail, patience, and deft textile artistry is showcased in 1/6th and 1/12th scale pieces such as mittens and jackets—clothing articles we are all familiar with, albeit much smaller than we have ever encountered. These laborious creations are very far from, and definitely smaller, than your neighbor’s winter crochet project! Supporting artists with pieces smaller than four inches square will complete this exhibit of tiny things at Cocoon Art Space in Eastown (Grand Rapids, MI).

Stephen Strowbridge's art is sharp, bold and super expressive. When you look at one of his acrylic gouache pieces you know something BIG is happening either between the figures or within themselves. For Stephen, art is a second language. He creates his own visual vocabulary to express his inner thoughts and feelings.

We had a fantastic First Friday art opening with Tedd Smith and his new series Up North 🌟

Wonderful friends, local artists and new visitors came out to celebrate this event. So HAPPY to see art alive in Grand Rapids with art enthusiasts and supporters!!! Come have a look at this beautiful art series highlighting special places, moments and memories of Up North in Michigan. On display through July 9, 2026.

At Cocoon Art Space we thrive on helping artists grow! Over the past few years we have witnessed emerging artists develop their skills, offering amazing works of art to the local art scene.

"In Progress" provides a glimpse into the creative process these artists use to complete a piece of work. It features unfinished works alongside finished works which is a rare opportunity to view a piece as it nears completion.
