LibertyTown Arts Workshop is a 13,000 square foot gallery with over 40 local craftspeople and artists. Here our artists create and show right on site in 27+ active studio spaces. We have potters, wood workers, welders, blacksmiths, oil painters, pastel artists, water colorists, and fiber art. As if that wasn't enough, we also offer CLASSES in:

- Pottery ( both Adult and Children's classes...beginners welcome!!!)
- Oil Painting (from several noted artists including Bill Harris, Ed King and Jenna Anderson)
- Blacksmithing
- Oil Pastels
- Chinese Watercolor
- Standard Watercolor
- Knitting
- Weaving
- Drawing
- Jewelery Making
- Sculpture
- and much more! In our emporium we also have 20 or more artist's works from around the region: exceptional woodwork, stained glass, soaps, candles, print work, shirts, knitwear and pottery! Coming soon: An outdoor courtyard with a blacksmithy and an area for moonlight concerts!! We love this place and hope you will too! Want some more history?? LibertyTown Arts Workshop was founded in 2002 by famed local potter Dan Finnegan, and changed hands in July 2013. The new husband and wife duo of Dolores and Kenneth Lecky are both artists in their own right (a potter and a photographer). They are working hard to add new classes, revamp the courtyard and paint a huge mural on the back of the building! Fun Fact: The building that houses our 40+ artists was once the plumbing annex of the Fredericksburg Hardware store...and we have the kooky floor tiles and wall sconces to prove it! Meet the Business Owner: D.D. and Kenneth!! and Kenneth are the new owners of LibertyTown Arts Workshop. They purchased the business in 2013 and are working hard to build the class schedule, revamp the courtyard and add a huge mural to the backside of the building facing William Street. The two met while attending UVA in 2002 and bonded over their love of art and science...and dogs ( they have three!). is a potter and a commercial property manager who brings business and art together whenever she can. Kenneth is a photographer and software engineer who is using his computer skills to push us into the 21th century!

I’m out at Quacktober Fest throwing pots and talking about FXBG Pottery Throwdown! Some of the pots I make today might even make it to that event on November 14th! I’ll be at my wheel until 6pm, or when my hands freeze off…whichever comes first!

Happy Wednesday!!! We are all things Fiber Arts this month with our “Fiber V” National exhibition!! Today we are featuring a cotton art quilt titled “Whispering Birch” by Carolyn Van Der Jagt

This composition features a woodland scene of birch trees in their forest landscape with mountains and sky in the background. We are so impressed with the use of different fabrics that make the layers of the composition and how they come together to make such a whimsical and flowing scene. The background sets the stage to feature the birch trees and their signature bark style that Carolyn uses stitching to define. This work brings all the dreamy and magical vibes of a landscape!!

Be sure to visit these and all the beautiful works in this months exhibit in person at LibertyTown or 24/7 online on our website!

Good Afternoon! We are into our second week of the “Fiber V” national juried exhibition, and we hope you will stop by and experience the wonderful showcase of texture, color, creativity, and the many ways artists transform fibers into works of art. Today we are featuring the diverse fiber art techniques of Marisela Rumberg.

“Mi Jardin” is a cotton and textile paint art quilt highlighting whimsical floral elements with abstract background elements. The colorful 3D elements (in that they are “puffy” and sit raised off the surface of the quilt) are a magical blend of fabric, stitching and paint that gives the flowers, vines, leaves and mushroom-like shapes depth, movement and a lovely visual interest. These elements are further enhanced by the use of the patterned background and the stitched black “ribbons” that make up the background. This work feels like the garden flowers are engaged in a dance of sorts and presents a joyous, celebratory feeling.

“Gallinita” and “Armadillo” are handmade paper mache’ and cotton fabric sculptures. The sweet hen and cute armadillo are clad in vibrant colored and patterned fabrics that make them very fun sculptures. We enjoy the details of the fabric placement to define the shapes and features of each of the animals.

“ZIA #4” is also a cotton and textile paint art quilt. This unique monochromatic piece feels a lot like Zentangle in glorious quilted form. Very graphic in nature we enjoy the movement of the abstract forms and how they interact and build off each other to create their compositional mass. We also really enjoy the quiet, textured background helps the black and white image move forward.

Good afternoon and Happy Saturday! What a great day to come downtown, grab some lunch and take in some art, especially our “Fiber V” national exhibit with all fiber based art! Today we a featuring:

“An Interpretation of Van Gogh Self Portrait” by Sharon Blancard and Susan Marchette. This amazing shoulder bag features a stunning embroidery of Van Gogh, sewn together with sunflower, denim and starry night fabric. The layers of embroidery and thought that Sharon put into creating this incredible likeness is mind blowing. We especially love the use is multi colored thread for the shadowed areas of the face. And then Susan’s clean and precise sewing of the bag itself, compliments and frames the portrait beautifully.

“Day in the Park” by Sharon Blancard. Sharon just keeps delighting us with her fiber art skills in this amazing quilted and embroidered work. This work features layers of fabric, quilted to create the landscape, then she added elements such as beads and embroidery to define clouds, fiber and other mixed media to create the girl flying the kite and even a tree from a embroidered piece by her grandmother. All these elements come to gather to nicely present us with a composition that is whimsical, magical and carefree.

“Under the Sea” by Caroline Hockaday . This art quilt is a like having your own personal, maintenance free aquarium. The soft quilted background sets the landscape for the fun and sparkly applied fish that are swimming to and fro. The floor is also lined with shells, botanical plants and sea floor dwelling creatures!

Happy Wednesday!! We have made it to mid week and are looking forward to the weekend. All month long we will be feature fiber from our “Fiber V” exhibit.

Today we are featuring three Art Quilts by Donna Blalock

“Backyard Spring” and “Refraction” are abstract quilts that feel like you are looking through grass and vegetation with the light from the sky creating patterns and colors. We enjoy the fresh bright greens and subtle blues which give a spring/summer vibe to “Backyard Spring”. The earthier greens and warm oranges give a quiet fall feeling to the “Refraction” composition. Both incredible pieces have so many textures and details to enjoy.

Speaking of incredible, “Finery” is an impressive, large quilt that is an interpretation of the “log cabin” design in quilting. Donna uses up-cycled materials and this one is interesting in that the use of neckties and suit linings make up one half and lace and tablecloth pieces make up the other half, giving a yin and yang swoop, with feminine and masculine balance. This impressive quilt is just amazing.

Good Afternoon! We had such an awesome First Friday opening, celebrating all of our artists and the opening of "Fiber V" a national juried exhibition. Check back here all month long as we feature all the amazing works in the exhibit. Today we are featuring:

"Silent Strength" by Lana Lechkina. This incredible work features the bust of a mighty lion and is made using paper quilling. If you are not familiar with the art of quilling, it's the use of rolled and manipulated thin strips of paper that are then arranged to create a design or in this case, a very formal lion. We very much enjoy the complex patterns and layers of quillled paper that create this amazing depiction of the king of the jungle. Be sure to check out Lana's Instagram and page to see how she creates these intricate works.
