Fredericksburg Area Museum WELCOME TO OUR STORY. Our vision is to serve our diverse community and its neighbors through a commitment to inclusion, integrity, credibility, and relevance.

We will be an institution that facilitates the recognition and understanding of the region’s nation-shaping history through exploration of our past, illumination of the present, and visioning of the future. During its first twenty-five years, the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center built a fine collection of artifacts and art that provide points of entry to reflect on our community’s past. The passionate dedication of community leaders to treasure the Fredericksburg region’s history led to the creation of this institution and has fostered its growth ever since. Today, the Museum is in an exciting phase of transition. Looking forward to its next twenty-five years, the institution will focus on meeting the ever-changing needs of its audience. We serve a growing and diverse group of visitors, community members and students who support our efforts to provide an opportunity to learn from the rich history of our region in ways that are meaningful to them. Our collection of historic treasures will continue to form the basis of our permanent exhibitions and the stories they tell. Multi-media interpretation, expanded public programming, interactive learning opportunities and a view of history from multiple perspectives will enhance the Museum’s experiential quality. We will eagerly explore our vast potential as a 21st-century museum. While the history of the Fredericksburg region is in many ways unique, it is also parallel to the history of our nation. And while stories told at the Museum are often rooted in the past, they are stories of human experience that reach across generations to connect with the present.

Ever wonder what goes into preserving history?

A lot happens behind the scenes at FAM to make sure the stories and objects in our collection are protected for generations to come!

In honor of Kylie Thomson, Curator of Collections, and Clarissa Sanders, Director of Interpretation and Programs, joined fellow museum professionals for a behind-the-scenes tour of Hollinger Metal Edge, Inc, where some of the archival supplies museums rely on every day are made.

A big thank you to Bob Henderson and the Hollinger Metal Edge team for both being a great partner to the museum showing us the care and craftsmanship that goes into helping museums like ours preserve the past.

Because keeping history alive takes a village—and sometimes a really good archival box!

Downtown Sounds is back TONIGHT! Join us in Market Square for The Don Brown Project, bringing a mix of blues, funk and jazz to the Downtown Sounds stage. 🎷🎸

Tonight’s concert takes place alongside Harambee 360’s Black Arts Festival, making downtown Fredericksburg the place to be for an evening of music, art and community.

The bar opens at 6:00pm and music starts at 6:30pm. Plus, FAM will be open during the concert, so stop inside and explore the Museum’s exhibitions while you’re here!

A new chapter for FAM starts now. ✨

We’re excited to welcome Svetlana Legetic as President & Chief Executive Officer of the Fredericksburg Area Museum.

A Fredericksburg resident with nearly two decades of experience across cultural institutions and community-driven organizations, Svetlana has built her career around bringing people together, strengthening organizations and finding new ways for cultural institutions to matter in people’s lives.

As Fredericksburg continues to grow and evolve, we’re excited for FAM to grow alongside it—building on our role as a steward of our region’s history while continuing to be a place for connection, discovery and community.
