The museum was first opened in 1927 by Monroe descendants as a place to house their own personal collections, which had been handed down through generations of the family. Event

🇺🇸This Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. 🇺🇸

Before becoming the fifth President of the United States, James Monroe served as a young officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. At just eighteen years old, Monroe was seriously wounded during the Battle of Trenton on December 26, 1776, when a musket ball struck his shoulder while leading an attack against British forces. The injury nearly cost him his life, and he carried the effects of that wound for the remainder of his years.

Monroe's service reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured through great sacrifice. As we remember those who gave everything for their country, we invite you to reflect on their courage, dedication, and enduring legacy.

On Tuesday, May 26th the museum will be closing early at 1:30 PM. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
