Help Keep the Museum's Progress on Track!The Fort Smith Trolley Museum has come a long way, and we’re asking our friends, supporters, and fellow railroad and trolley enthusiasts to help us keep that progress going!
Since taking over the museum, we’ve been working hard to bring new life to the property, equipment, and collections. Through the dedication of our volunteers and supporters, we have:
🚋 Begun the restoration of Birney Safety Car #224, including major mechanical and cosmetic restoration for its 100th birthday.
🛤️ Rebuilt and improved sections of our track, including replacing ties and ballast, and rebuilding the carbarn lead switch.
🌳 Made major improvements to the grounds, gardens, and landscaping around the museum, including our soon to be announced memorial garden and walkway.
🏛️ Begun much-needed improvements to our library building, including new flooring, A/C units, and fresh paint.
🚂 Continued work on our historic railroad equipment and locomotives, including projects involving Frisco #4003, Mr. Peanut, and other pieces of the collection.
🔧 Returned equipment such as the Trackmobile and forklift to service, giving us the tools we need to move materials to help renovate the museum.
🧹 Removed years of accumulated trash, graffiti, spilled paint, and general deterioration from equipment and buildings.
👷♂️ Brought new volunteers into the museum and created more opportunities for people to learn the skills needed to preserve historic streetcars and railroad equipment.
And this is only the beginning!
But restoration takes money and materials
Lumber, railroad ties, paint, electrical equipment, mechanical parts, tools, building materials, and countless other supplies all add up quickly.
We want to keep moving forward rather than letting these projects stall. Every donation, no matter the size, directly helps us preserve Fort Smith's transportation history for future generations.
