Chaffee Crossing Historic District

Chaffee Crossing Historic District "Hair today, gone tomorrow."
📍Chaffee Barbershop and Military Museum

The Chaffee Barbershop Museum not only lets the visitor 'step back in time' to that day in 1958 when Elvis got his symbolic army haircut, but serves to honor the effect Fort Chaffee had on the state of Arkansas and the important role it played in World War II and every decade following.

It was a privilege to host Colette Holt, the daughter of Tuskegee Airman & WW2 Veteran Coleman T. Holt. Fort Chaffee served as the backdrop of the Laurence Fishburn film, “The Tuskegee Airmen.” Holt’s legacy continued after the war as a prominent attorney during the civil rights era. In 2013, the Pritzker Military Museum & Library named their oral history room after Holt in his honor. We salute 1st Lt. Holt & remember the legacy he left behind as a trailblazer in the U.S. Military.

What would it be like to leave everything you’ve ever known at just 10 years old—and start over in a place you’ve never been?

Doug Nguyen remembers.

In 1975, he and his mother fled Vietnam and eventually arrived at Fort Chaffee. Now grown, Doug will return to the Chaffee Crossing Historic District to share his memories of that journey—and what it meant for his family to build a new life in America.

Join us for an evening of history, personal stories, and reflection as Doug shares a chapter of Chaffee’s history that was lived by thousands who came here seeking a new beginning. Complimentary Vietnamese eggrolls and snacks will be available, thanks to Mrs. Tam Ly.🙌
