Falmouth Museums on the Green Falmouth Historical Society & Museum on a beautiful 2 acre campus featuring two 18th-century houses, a 19th century barn, and Cultural Center.

Rotating Exhibits, events, walking tours, house tours, & rentals. The Falmouth Historical Society's mission is to preserve, present, celebrate, and share the history of the Cape Cod town of Falmouth through collections, educational programs, interpretive exhibits and Museums on the Green. In accordance with its mission, the Falmouth Historical Society owns and operates Museums on the Green, located on a two-acre complex in the heart of historic Falmouth Village. Two 18th century houses showcase period furnishings, fine arts, handmade quilts and samplers. Special exhibits depict Falmouth's 19th century maritime industries, the practice of pre-Civil War medicine, and the life of Katharine Lee Bates, Falmouth-born author of "America the Beautiful."

There is something different about seeing a historic house after the sun goes down. The familiar rooms of the Wicks House feel entirely changed by candlelight, and this October we have a special opportunity to experience them that way with Sins, Sips, and Secrets, taking place Thursday evenings, October 15th, 22nd, and 29th at 6pm. The tour explores some of the stranger, darker, and more unexpected stories connected to Falmouth’s past. You might hear, for example, about Thomas Gifford, a young Falmouth resident who died in 1805 in one of the town’s most bizarre political protests, when a cannon loaded with dead fish exploded on the village green. Along the way, we’ll explore the superstitions, fears, medical mysteries, and curious beliefs that shaped everyday life in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is a rare chance to see Wicks House in a completely different light, quite literally.

If you are looking for a little more Halloween atmosphere, Sinners, Saints, and Silent Souls returns on Saturdays in October at 3pm, offering a chance to wander through the Old Burying Ground and hear the stories of some of the fascinating people resting there, along with tales of alleged witches and monsters drawn from our own archives.

And then, on October 30th, one of our most popular Halloween traditions returns for its fifth year: Wicked at Wicks, our special children’s program from 4 to 5:30pm. It is always wonderful to see the campus transformed for Halloween and filled with families, costumes, stories, and a little bit of spooky fun.

Whether you prefer your October history mysterious or simply magical, there is plenty happening at Museums on the Green this month.

Participants will visit the 1790 Dr. Francis Wicks House to hear a different story in each room of Falmouth’s nefarious and unearthly past. Using first person accounts, diaries, and newspaper records, you will hear things about the actual fears about the night, wayward travelers, and spirits in times past.

🏡Museum open hours:
Mon, Tues, Fri 10am-2pm, Sat 10am-2pm. Docent-led house tours on the hour. Many self-guided exhibits, and Whaling Wives Gift Shop! Free admission, open June 5 - October 16, 2026. Between Seasons open dates: November 28th & December 5th 10am – 2pm.

Halloween graveyard fun - Saturdays in October! 🎃 "Sinners, Saints, and Silent Souls: A Special Halloween Burying Ground Walking Tour"

As Halloween approaches, spirits come out of the shadows, eager to have their stories told. Now is the perfect time to visit them on their home turf.

Join us for an enhanced Halloween version of our popular tour of Falmouth’s Old Burying Ground, where we’ll explore the gravesites of fascinating characters resting in the town’s oldest cemetery. In honor of the season, we’ll also delve into spine-tingling tales of alleged witches, demons, murder, and monsters—all grounded in actual local history from our archives with a Falmouth twist.

Falmouth has a spooky side—come and see it for yourself! Whether you’ve joined us before or this is your first time, you haven’t experienced a tour like this.

Parking: Please park in the lot at 157 Locust Street (bike path parking lot). Use the crosswalk to cross Locust St. and head toward the large boulder of the Mariners’ Memorial. Opposite the Memorial, across Mill Rd., join your tour guide at the top of Cemetery Lane.

Recommended for ages 13+ and those who can navigate uneven terrain.
Meeting Point: The Old Burying Ground tour begins at the top of Cemetery Lane. Don’t forget to wear long clothing, bring bug spray, and prepare for a hauntingly good time!

$30 General Admission, $20 for Museums on the Green members — limit of 20 people per walk, pre-registration required.

Harmonies by Candlelight is an intimate holiday benefit concert featuring a beautiful performance by the Cape Cod String Quartet, a catered dinner, and an unforgettable evening at Museums on the Green.
