The Museum celebrated our canine companions on National Dog Day with this bronze and steel work by ALICIA N. PONZIO, titled 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘶𝘮, which is featured in the exhibition; Meaning in the Making: Celebrating the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts.

Families are enjoying the magic of 𝘈 𝘍𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳’𝘴 𝘎𝘪𝘧𝘵, on view through 14 November 2026.

Dr. Robert “Bob” Brill (1929–2021) was a pioneering glass scientist, archaeologist, and gifted artist. Beginning in 1964, he created a series of intricate model houses for his daughter Elizabeth’s toy mice.

What began as a few charming houses soon grew into an enchanting collection of elaborate and dynamic dioramas. Every detail was meticulously considered—from tiny oil paintings and stained-glass windows to working electric lights—inviting viewers into a richly imagined otherworld.

The piece shared here, 𝘈 𝘚𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘶𝘮, created in 1982, depicts a curator’s tiny apartment in the attic of a museum below. The old-world atmosphere is aglow, furnished with oil lamps, antique furniture, and a tool kit that appears to belong to another era. The paintings lining the walls are reinterpretations of famous works of art, in which the human figures have been replaced by mice.

Join us to celebrate the opening of 𝑨 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓'𝒔 𝑮𝒊𝒇𝒕: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘳. 𝘙𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭.

As Elizabeth grew, so did the stories and settings surrounding the mice, transforming the collection into an immersive landscape of creativity, craftsmanship, and love. The exhibition is a delightful experience for visitors of all ages. Peer inside this magical world and discover a father's enduring gift to his daughter.
