Around the same time that National Glider competitions were gaining popularity in Elmira - world records were being set in Hawaii!

NSM established a landmarks of soaring directory to preserve the stories, artifacts, and memorabilia from these remarkable moments.

Landmark #9 - Nuuanu Pali Lookout, Hawaii - William A. Cocke Jr. sets an international soaring record 12/17-18/1931 remaining aloft in the Nighthawk for 21hrs 34min. With the cliff face illuminated during the night by US Army 64th Coast Artillery Battery, Cocke set a new mark for the world for endurance flights in a glider. This site was dedicated to the Landmarks Program 12/8/1996.

There are currently 16 total landmarks to explore and learn more about on the NSM website.

Region 3 competition hosted by Harris Hill Soaring Corporation is just around the corner --> July 13- July 18 Harris Hill.

This is a great time to see multiple glider launches in a row! Visit the Museum while the pilots are on course and track them live in our lobby on WeGlide. After you've seen the exhibits you might just get to see them all land back on Harris Hill!
