Canadian River Howlers will take the Museum's bandstand stage at 9pm, Sept 19th for Twilight at the Depot. The Canadian River Howlers are an Oklahoma-based country, folk, and Americana trio featuring Cody Hassell on vocals and rhythm guitar, Logan Williams on fiddle, mandolin, and lead guitar, and Todd Neece on bass. With a stripped-down string-band sound and a healthy dose of Oklahoma roots, the Howlers blend classic country, folk, and Americana into a set built for live audiences. This is a photo of the grand opening of the El Caro Theatre at 110 S. Bickford Avenue in El Reno, Oklahoma, was just a block off of Route 66 in 1938. We notice that it is air-conditioned. It was short‑lived but an architecturally distinctive Paramount-built neighborhood movie house that operated from May 20, 1938 until it was destroyed by fire on December 23, 1943. Its history is unusually well documented because Paramount reused a standardized blueprint and because the theatre’s successor—the Centre Theatre—was built directly on the same footprint.

🐂 A BIG piece of El Reno history is currently on display at The Filling Station! ✨

The famous Sirloin Stockade steers started as part of an advertising campaign in 1971. Production moved to El Reno in 1973, where the steers were assembled inside the original Rock Island Railroad Ice Plant. From 1971-78, 97 steers were produced - each made from 17 individual pieces, painted with military-grade aircraft paint and transported on its own custom trailer!

On loan from Larry Hodges, come see this unique piece of Oklahoma and El Reno history at The Filling Station through Sept. 7. After that, the steer will make its permanent home at Plaza 66 Storage in El Reno.

COMING SOON --- “Twilight at the Depot,” the museum’s annual fundraiser, returns on September 19th from 7–10 p.m. This year’s opening performer on the museum’s bandstand is Brad Jones of Mustang, a singer and guitarist known for bringing the sound of the ’90s back to life. His gritty blend of alternative rock, classic rock, and pop draws inspiration from artists like the Goo Goo Dolls, Bush, Gin Blossoms, and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
Brad has become a familiar face in the metros live music scene, thanks to his straightforward, no‑frills style that puts the songs front and center. His set is the kind that gets the crowd singing along to tunes they forgot they remembered—whether it’s a ’90s alternative favorite or a classic that hasn’t crossed your mind in years. At its heart, Brad’s performance is all about good songs played the way they’re meant to be.

Interesting tidbit on the Hotel El Reno.... we received a donation for repairs to the hotel today from LueAnn S. with it was a note that her dad Lue Clark worked for Rock Island from 1922-1966 as a fireman/engineer. He told of staying at the Hotel El Reno in the 30s where you shared a room with 2 or 3 strangers, never knowing who they were.
