Calling all genealogists! A new family genealogy collection has been added to the Mercer Museum Research Library’s archives; the Search family research collection 📜

This collection contains genealogical research, family records, correspondence, photographs, and newspaper clippings documenting the Search family and related families from Bucks County and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The collection contains materials and items from Leslie Calvert Search, who began researching her family genealogy in the 1980s at a library in Georgia, where she discovered History of Bucks County by BCHS co-founder W.W.H. Davis.

A major focus of this research was identifying the earliest documented immigrant ancestor of the Search family. Originally, many identified William Search as the original ancestor; however, research concluded that Christopher Search was the earliest documented immigrant ancestor. Christopher Search was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1710 and came to Maryland in 1728 as an indentured servant. He later moved to New Jersey, where he had family connections.

The collection also documents related family lines, including the Bennet, Bohun, Corson, Dungan, Miles, and Rittenhouse families.
