We are dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the art and cultural heritage of Delaware Valley. Michener Art Museum collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits American Art, with a focus on art of the Bucks County region. The Museum presents changing exhibitions that explore a variety of artistic expressions, and offers a diverse program of educational activities that seek to develop a lifelong involvement in the arts as well as nurture a wide range of audiences. We also seek to educate our community about nationally and internationally known Bucks County artists of all creative disciplines. Accredited by The American Alliance of Museums, the Michener Art Museum also hosts special events for visitors of all ages, including classes, lectures, conversations, and performances.

Field stone, Argillite, and grey sandstone from active quarries right here in Bucks County: that’s what got the attention of a generation of Pennsylvania Impressionists.

Our newest exhibition, “Abstractions of Nature: Quarries and Industry in Pennsylvania Impressionism,” shows how Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield, and more used the rock faces of quarries in their landscapes. Make sure to stop by on your next visit!

We had to give you a preview of next week’s artist talk by Mark Thomas Gibson Mark Thomas Gibson! Here he talks about his diptych of watery crossings on view at our America’s 250th exhibition, “The Crossing: Picturing the American Revolution.”

There are two different outcomes: a celebratory return, and a potential shipwreck. Gibson says Washington faced exactly those odds upon his decision to undertake the Delaware River crossing 250 years ago.

Meet Philadelphia’s Mark Thomas Gibson at the artist talk on Wednesday, October 14! Gibson is featured in our exhibition celebrating America’s 250th, “The Crossing: Picturing the American Revolution,” with four artworks on view.

Right now, Gibson’s “Flag 1 (The Big One)” appears on the Pine Street banners at the museum entrance! On the canvas, the red and white stripes of the American flag appear as choppy waves, alluding to the watery crossings of United States history. We can’t wait to have him back at the Michener!

"I try to be a Rosetta Stone," said artist Roberto Lugo at the first Behind These Walls Lecture Series last Thursday, sharing stories of translating his world into the language of fine arts.

Lugo brought us along his lifelong journey with pottery through spoken word poetry and insights into the artistic references in his works, both from the street and from art history. That journey includes this year's commission of "Permanence: We Were Here, now on view at Michener Art Museum, remembering the people who were incarcerated at the same site when it was the Bucks County Jail.
