Peacock
By Lanre Buraimoh
Beads and Acrylic
16" X 30"
Peacock is a striking homage to beauty, pride, and cultural symbolism. The artwork features a majestic peacock rendered in a brilliant array of colors, each feather meticulously crafted with thousands of tiny beads and enriched with acrylic paint. The intricate detailing and radiant palette give the bird a sense of movement and grandeur, making it appear almost alive. Drawing inspiration from Yoruba beadwork traditions, “Peacock” not only celebrates the elegance of the natural world but also reflects themes of dignity, transformation, and artistic heritage. It is a powerful fusion of texture, color, and meaning.

Reading is Dangerous
Julianne Mahler
11"
Mixed Media in clear acrylic box.

This piece is 11” square in the acrylic box. The book is a vintage copy of “Maus” by Art Spiegelman. Maus is a graphic novel describing the Holocaust and is a banned book in Tennessee. The book does have adult content and would be difficult for children and young teenagers to read without dialogue or context. The command to “Read” is cut and folded into the page edges of the book, one page at a time, the way one reads a book. The barbed wire mimics the fencing around the concentration camp and makes it dangerous to read the book. But the title is satirical. Not having the dialogue, not knowing and understanding history is dangerous. Not reading is more dangerous.

“Stronger” is a vibrant and empowering abstract portrait that merges the dynamic energy of comic books with the powerful image of a woman’s face. Bold colors swirl around her features, conveying strength, resilience, and determination. The comic book backdrop, filled with action-packed panels and dynamic typography, adds an element of narrative, suggesting that her story is one of triumph and perseverance. This striking piece celebrates the inner power and courage that define us, with a visual language that is both modern and heroic.

Life After Death
36” x 36”
Acrylic on Canvas
Cassandra Bohne-L

How can a desiccated tree produce such striking flowers in both form and color? The dry, barren landscape, scorched and in desperate need of moisture, has blackened the life-giving trunk of the tree and we can assume death. Yet it is evident that the tree has produced beautiful life. The artist has used the color blue for the floral bouquet because of its strong association with the spiritual world and its connection with wisdom and understanding. In this depiction of death and the afterlife we are left optimistic and hopeful.
