Did you know the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel Plaza underwent a major transformation in the 1970s? 🏗️

As part of an extensive modernization project, every building on the plaza was replaced with a new, modern structure—all while the Tunnel remained open to traffic. 🚗🇺🇸🇨🇦

One piece of the original plaza still stands today: the ventilation building. Instead of being replaced, it was updated with exterior cladding to blend seamlessly with the newly redesigned plaza.

It’s just one chapter in nearly a century of innovation at the Tunnel, where generations of engineering and infrastructure have helped keep two cities—and two countries—connected!
