Best of Hour Detroit - Art Gallery 2026

We are honored to share that The Scarab Club has been named Best Art Gallery as part of Hour Detroit’s Best of Detroit list.

For more than a century, The Scarab Club has been part of Detroit’s creative history, supporting artists, presenting exhibitions, welcoming members and guests, and creating space for art, conversation, and community.

Each year, we curate and host exhibitions that celebrate local artists, present work by nationally and internationally recognized artists, and invite the public into one of Detroit’s most unique historic spaces, including our private garden and Artists Lounge.

Thank you to everyone who voted for us and continues to support The Scarab Club. We are grateful to be part of Detroit’s art community, and we are looking ahead to 2027 with an exhibition schedule we cannot wait to share.

As the Gilda Snowden Memorial Exhibition continues at The Scarab Club, we wanted to share this beautiful PBS feature on Gilda Snowden, her work, and her impact.

Join us for a conversation with Poster House Assistant Curator of Collections Es-pranza Humphrey for an intimate discussion about collecting, preserving, and sharing Black cinema history.

In this special program, presented in connection with Act Black: Posters from Black American Stage & Screen, we will talk about how we developed a deeply personal collection of posters and ephemera, built up over decades by our father James E. Wheeler, into a vital cultural archive for educators, artists, and communities.
