My computer caught a virus, so the CPU been at Dr. Bad Cogs for about a week, (Had a couple of great rides over the weekend!) Loaded up and rolled down to for Tim's Tuesday Night ride and to pick up the Brains of my desk top operation. Beautiful trails along the river Rouge watershed. Great memories made new by the Moun-Mon aka the French-Canadian-Morrocan!

I finally had the time yesterday to schedule my first the way I took down is the best way/least car traffic for all bike groups that roll down from the suburbs through so please do consider. Rolling through is always a joy especially on your way to get to the new Bridge. My goal was Ye Old Dominion House which can trace its history back to British times and is absolutely the oldest tavern on either side of the . Ever since the lockdown shakedown that happened in response to the events of 2001-9/11 I have avoided spending time in Windsor. The way you were treated upon your return was hard not to take personally. Yesterday the agents on either side were of a wonderful sort, professional but since you on your bike its easy-breezy-lemon-squeezy. As you come down on the Canadian side and exit the customs office make sure you turn left to hop on the new bike trail, I first turned right and added a couple miles onto the route.

has sure gotten better over the last 25-years. The place was full of all sorts of people walking about and smiling no less. The Café doors were open to the streets and the sun was shining. On my way in I passed by the and thought well on my return I have to stop in and check it out. I am glad I did, again everyone was super friendly and the tastes were remarkable. If anyone is a serious craft connoisseur I recommend you take the journey by bike or car as the place is worth the visit.

The return Bridge climb was better than my approach, it’s the biggest elevation I have encountered since Kansas City Last year. When I Landed back in the USA I thought of our old starting spot for our Thursday night Bike rides back in the day, They are officially open on the weekends now and the folks were busy making up some nice colors and great smells. Had to stop one last time at the recently sold and improved to see if what they say about the is true? Plenty of room, outdoor service and more importantly, bikes are welcome!

Friday was brother Paul B’day, he and his old Highschool friend Jen Z. were good to go, so an East side exploration was in order. Our goal was located just outside the far NE corner of Detroit just north of 8-mile tucked into , but first we had to visit the “improved” They had the place on lock down while “They cut down all the trees because the Park was contaminated” B.S.! While the park was on (Lock-down) the city of Detroit added to the Sea walls along the Lenox Street and along The Canel Side/Lakewood Street. Then using ??? (time to check this one out) they lifted the whole park up 5’ to get it out of the floodplain so they could apply and receive = Taxable Valuation. This is what the whole, “Shut down the canals down” B.S. is about in the first place….. From there we adventured through the including Which is worse than 9-mile, Amped-up Speed Limits-Stop Signs what? Someday Brewing has a wonderful outdoor patio and the goods to be relevant in today’s everchanging microbrew market. The rest take notice, there is a new group of artists intown, they create complex, cloudy clean and delicious-worth-the-trip type refreshments! On the way back brother Paul wanted to hit a Historic place right on the edge of Detroit where it Meets , awesome ride!

After the Great fire of 1871 Chicago was ripe for a better design. In 1879-1880 they hired out of New York to help them reinvent the city. Olmstead was commissioned to design a series of Parks and Boulevards to encircle the city and connect them altogether. We had visited and rode our bikes through many of his other works, most notably in Brooklynn NY and The in but had not had the chance to tour this So in Harmony with the New Moon of Wed August 12th I got to scratch this one off of my bucket list.

First up was Lake Shore Park turned into where the new is located, (a wee bit ph***ic if you ask me) near the library things were clean but as you headed out back into the original design concept things got a bit dicey and in disrepair but nonetheless Green and Beautiful. Heading west on East Midway Plaisance you get to ride by the it’s like riding your bike through the streets of England. Beautiful Architecture abounds. The boulevard heads straight into the old South Park turned into the Lagoons and promenades are a feature of most of Olmstead’s work and here it was no different. Continuing west on the neighborhoods become a little bit run down, I made my way into to delight in one of the best public pools I have ever seen! It looks straight out of Italy with a framing the picturesque view. From there I continued west into the pocket or corner and as I headed north I witnessed something that I could never have imagined. Both sides of the once great Boulevard had been converted into Amped up car traffic going both ways, a mere 150’ apart what a sight to behold, WTH? When cars come first-1st Boulevards lose there meaning as there is no more grace, place or ease to ride your bicycle. After 2 chin music events I hit the rough raggedy ass sidewalk and traveled north all the way into a welcome respite from all the car craziness. After a brief stop on a park bench, I continued North and just after the ship canal, I shut off Strava to check my directions and of course forgot to turn it back on when I made a quick left onto W 31st were the Boulevard winds up and around to which kept its original name, massive and beautiful to visit. From there I continued West and turned on S. Independence Blvd all the way north to turned which is expansive, green and Beautiful. I continued on from there heading east on Franklin Blvd. before turning north onto Sacramento Blvd on into , amazing! Heading North on Humbolt working my way to I looked up and noticed a bunch of bike riders and people crossing a bridge overhead? I found the on ramp and soon was delighting in Chicago’s Best rails to trails conversion on an old decommissioned Elevate train Line. Heading East through I got to see many beautiful people ridding and running both ways. My orginal goal was to hit the bike lanes on and take it all the way into the heart of the city. I stopped at a bike repair shop right off the trail to re-load my water bottles and hydrate. As I sat and look at the Ferris wheel on I was delighted to see a teacher leading 28 young bike riders on a Lakeshore adventure, all with helmets on! From there the rain started and soon it was a deluge, all the way around I crossed over at and soon was headed in to shower and dry off. it was worth the trip and always

Midway stopping points by bike became a thing back in the day when we had “real” winters in Detroit, a place to warm up. Big Mike liked his beer, so I continued on with the tradition. Riding through east side of Detroit is like a history tour. Old Victorian farmhouses still found dotting the empty streets that I choose to travel, why? No cars anywhere! Yesterday was one of the first times I stopped to film some these unique views as I rode down to meet a ‘new band member’ Moun-Mon at the soon to be closed
As I was sitting on the patio I could not help but think about the old adage, Location, location, location. When you sit in a viable neighborhood, within walking or stroller distance and offer something for everyone, its easy to be busy and viable no matter how good your products are. A drive in or ride in only location, outside of a viable bedroom community, offering only Craft beer in Detroit simply cannot last given the (narrows) of the revenue stream. What happened to Belgum waffle breakfast on Sundays?? I thought about how many lessor craft quality type places are alive and well in Detroit at different locations. They offer the adults water, beer, coffee, food, wine, liquor and then offer the kids soda pop and outdoor play around-ground. Racheal truly is the best at her craft, but the self-focus to this greatness is perhaps too narrow to succeed in our current market? To those of you that have never been, I would advise you to hurry. The Listing board already noted that 3 offerings had run out for the last time.

Yesterday I got the call around 5:30 PM from brother Paul who wanted to join me up in Palmer Park for a social type ride throughout the city, Sure! We headed down Rosa Parks and soon found ourselves traveling south on 14th street. Unlike previous times, Paul was on my left and we were talking away when I spotted a magnificent American Elm Tree, one of the remaining champions that was not Knee-Jerked-rushed to be cut down back in the early 1930’s In response to early globalization, the Dreaded Dutch Elm Disease. Towering over the adjacent homes on Hanover St., (just north of Grand Blvd.) she was a sight to behold. The Butress roots went off in all directions, what a beauty! From there we decided to check out the new located across the street from the Pizzeria at the corner of Holden and Trumbull st’s. The place was seriously nice and even better, clean and staffed with great people. The outdoor seating space was awesome as we witnessed a pizza delivery right to one of the tables from across the street. As per usuals bike rider Matt K. from the Dearborn bike riding group is always hot on the trail of ‘New’, showed up with his Hat and wife Rosemary and joined us in good conversation and fun. It was there that he told us about the reopening of in midtown? I had not read single word, but Paul and I decided to roll on down and meet up with them there to check it out and see if the stories were true?

Scottie is long gone; Sandy was leading the service team and had a Beach-full of attitude to go along with her flip flops. The place was kind of run down, yet alive and well with hearty patrons. We headed outside to the Courtyard that I designed back in 2011 as this was once the place that we held our Thursday Night Bike rides from back in the late 2000’s It was there I got to say hello to an old friend that we planted 15-years ago. A New and improved/disease resistant Tree brought in form the city of Detroit’s old in still growing strong and remaining True.

Got the call late yesterday from Paul G. who wanted to meet up for a ride. I told him see you on one of my all-time Detroit Favorites. We hit the for a bit and then snaked east through new streets waving hello to the people we met. Ended up in Piety Hill at which is becoming the place to visit for all bike riders. Sat on the patio delighting in diversity, kids too, waving hi to all of the bike riders rolling north. The aka 'Drew' was moving fast as the place was slammed, his nuptials are coming up in a few weeks, and we wish him all the Best!

Last night some of the original members of the band got back together to see if we could actually find the entrance to the new International Bike path across the With all of the Media Propaganda and other local groups cheer leading away, Bad Cog and Paul G. wanted to see what was what. We came in from the west, first by way of Delray to take a looksee at the The place was alive and full of family and kids playing away. The neighborhood we took in to get there was cut up pretty bad by the I-75 Bridge work but at its heart, the Rec center that I had never seen before, was alive and well. We continued down Dearborn Street making our way to Jefferson Ave. as Jefferson is the only way to gain access by bike to the new international bridge. It had been a year since we last stopped in at the , oddly enough the new bridge bike path ends right here. Calssic Detroit Dive place, empty as usual. One of the casualties of the new bridge project was the elimination of Livernois, it had once dead ended into the entrance to Historic Ft. Wayne. The New right angle Bike entrance to the bridge is about an 1/8th of a mile west of the Ft Wanye entrance. The turnstile entrance ways are sure to be a challenge for pedestrians with wagons or chariots for the kids? As we headed east made a turn up S. Campbell St. and stopped at a gate to have a great conversation with a Good Guy/Border Patrol agent who politely said, “I wouldn’t plan anything for Aug. 5th the word is it won’t be open, it’s not ready”. From there we explored the many still closed pedestrian overpasses, coming down and crossing over I-75 will be the biggest challenge for all bikers. Livernois closed, S. Campbell. closed, Junction closed, the barricades were open just wide enough at the McKinstry St. overpass to let bikes pass thru, Bad Cog did not hesitate and soon we were all rolling up and over. Once back in Bad Cogs “Hood” we all rolled west to Springwell’s st and turned north up to Another Great SW org. Dive bar that we first visited back in 2003. After many laughs and too much listening to the “Lady in Red” who just could not slow down, we all headed back to the Miller Street Bridge and rolled in hot to the place we began the nights, Journey.

I headed out last night to check out the from Rosa Parks to Elmhurst Street. I have to admit some of it, is beautiful. Had to dismount 5 times along the way, but apart from the earth ramps and incomplete street connection, most of it was good. The lack of/no directions anywhere, when you come South/North to W. Davison Ave. is a problem, especially for those from out of town. One of the Pedestrian overpasses that MDOT did not remove, is still available to get up and across the freeway. Its located west of the trail about 1/4 of a mile. They are going to have to install 2 bridges along the south bound Jeffries Fwy from Davison connector, if they ever hope to complete that section of the trail. From there I wondered down more Detroit streets that I have never seen in my 26 years of exploring the city of by Bike. What influenced my decision to move into Detroit back in 2011 was the magnificent virgin Oak trees of Palmer Park. For anyone visiting, out-of-towners included, I suggest you slow down, visit and take in the sights and the presence of nature that still abounds inside the forest. My goal today was to re-visit some Two-way History and then visit and take in thier annual event that they hold every year on the last Saturday of the months of June, July and August. Why the event received no coverage from the or the on the “things to do over the weekend”, still leaves me scratching my head? All Black vs White, and “Closed Streets” nonsense aside, what disarms people and dispatches the polarity of Entitlement is regardless of color or anything else people could bitch about. For me there is nothing like a closed street for kids and families to enjoy. The Art type shops were everywhere, the music was playing, the kids were dancing and riding their BMX’s bikes with defiantly my kind of place to take in the GOOD vibe, Detroit Families are invited! After coming around the Stellantis Plant I decided to check out the Bike Lane improvement from St. Jean all the way to Mt. Elliot. The city of Detroit has no finer bike path anywhere, period. Had a chance to a full glass of water and take in the sights of the Art Park out back then hit the trail north to and enjoyed some more refreshments and deep breaths. Their back patio is perfect for all, bikes included.
