Where plants & people meet
The idea for Art Terrarium was born in the downtown skywalks, as a pop up during Des Moines Art Week 2016. Owner Andrea Metzler and several friends gathered over 30 Des Moines artists and a collection of plants from Harvey’s Greenhouse for a two day art filled experience. As they looked at the art filled skywalk bridges, they thought, “It feels like we’re in a terrarium
filled with art...an Art Terrarium!”
A year later, Art Terrarium became a brick and mortar shop in downtown Des Moines, with a mission to build community around the love of plants and local art. Through workshops, classes, and our knowledgeable staff, our goal is to equip every guest with the tools they need to be successful plant parents. At AT, we love to find the best and most unique plants perfect for any space and beautiful, handcrafted planters and gifts from local and national artisans. Our joy comes from helping customers find the plants that perfectly match their skill level and specific space needs, and helping folks through their plant care journey from the beginning.
