David Tocher of Marlton, NJ is trying to track down volume 3 of the History of Connecticut (publ. 1962). His late step-father-in-law George Thomas Hubbell attended the 1987 Flagstaff, AZ biennial reunion (we think) and loaned it out to another attendee. Does anyone have any information regarding this book? Hubbell/Hubble/Huble/Hubball/Hubel Hubbell Society Museum & Library

Artist Rod Hubble has donated a reproduction of American Heirloom, one of his major works. The painting was taken from a small black and white photograph circa 1930 in Eastern New Mexico. The painting has both Rod's father Henry Ray Hubble and his father William Hubbell. More of Hubble's art work can be viewed on his website at rodhubble.com. It makes a great addition to the HML entryway.

Yesterday was the 313th anniversary of the death of our pioneer ancestor Richard Hubbell. If it weren't for him immigrating to New England/Connecticut in the early 1640s, our family tree would definitely look different :)

Hubbell Center in Des Moines recently received 2 amazing paintings done by Jacob (Jake) Hubbell (6672) and donated by Frank Hashimoto, a family friend whose father was married to Jake’s and Marjorie’s adopted daughter, Osei Sakamoto. Jake was a coal miner and circus performer of Middlegrove, IL, born in 1882. The paintings were likely done in the 1930s or 1940s and Jake also built the frames which surround the artwork. They hang on the west wall of the library room at Hubbell Center.

Jake was part of the fascinating circus world of pre-World War II America. He and his family toured with carnivals and circuses for years. His wife, Marjorie, daughter Osei and his three nieces, daughters of brother, Isaac (Ike)(6671) were part of the troupe who trained together. Jessie, Mabel and Irma were part of the Sels Floto circus, the Flying Wards and other groups.
A more extensive article on this family with photos is planned for Family Notes.
