Join Frontier Village & Museum and the Junior Master Gardeners for a special hands-on children’s gardening class celebrating America’s 250th anniversary!

Children will spend the day discovering how gardening, food, and plants have played a part in American history. Through three fun mini lessons, crafts, food, and hands-on activities, participants will explore stories from America’s past before helping us plant crops in our new Children’s Garden beds.

Choose from two class dates: August 26 or August 27
Time: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM
Cost: $25 per child
Best suited for: Ages 6+
Location: Frontier Village & Museum, 111 RC Vaughan Rd., Denison, TX 75020

🌱 Early Settlers & Native Americans
Learn about planting traditions and some of the agricultural knowledge Native Americans shared with early settlers. Children will enjoy a beading activity and a snack of Johnny cake and honey.

šŸ’ The Gardens of Thomas Jefferson & George Washington
Discover the important role gardens played at the homes of two of America’s Founding Fathers. Children will make their own traditional tussy mussy to take home.

šŸŽ Johnny Appleseed
Learn about the man behind the American legend and his connection to planting apple trees across the frontier. Children will then participate in a fun Seed Exchange Market!

šŸ½ļø Lunch is provided!
Our menu includes macaroni and cheese, sweet potato fries, apple pie, and ice cream.
The day will end with everyone getting their hands dirty! Children will help us plant crops in our new Children’s Garden beds at Frontier Village. Even better, the crops planted during the class will be cared for throughout the season and harvested for use in our Village Thanksgiving Dinner!
This is more than a gardening class—it’s a chance for children to connect history with the land, learn where food comes from, and contribute to something our community will enjoy later in the year.

Space is limited, so reserve your child’s spot today!
