We talk a lot about our Día de los Mu***os puppets... because they're pretty amazing!

Each of our giant puppets has been lovingly crafted by hand over the past 15 years by talented local artists, art students, and dedicated volunteers. Every puppet tells its own story while becoming part of a tradition that has grown with our festival.

The first puppet-making workshop was held in 2011 at Grayson College under the guidance of Steve O. Black. What began as a single workshop quickly became an annual tradition, with each new generation of artists contributing their creativity, craftsmanship, and unique vision.

From those collaborative efforts, the Skiddy Street Puppet Company was born—a creative guild that welcomed anyone interested in learning the art of puppet making. Together, they built not only larger-than-life puppets, but also a lasting legacy of community, mentorship, and imagination that continues to inspire us today. 🎭🧡

Artist Jimmy Hackney will guide the group in the basics of mail art... This class is a fun, informal way to create art from all types of 2-D materials that can be sent via mail to other artists in the US and abroad, as well as enter specific Mail Art Shows. No experience necessary for this course!

We are a month away from the 15th Annual Dia de los Mu***os Festival!

Right now, many things are happening behind the scenes in preparation for the big day. Giant puppets are undergoing repairs and refreshes... performers are being confirmed for the brand new main stage at Heritage Park... and our Quinceanera court is taking shape... We can't wait for you to see how special this year's festival will be!

Do you want to be part of the action? We are seeking volunteer puppeteers for the the parade. We would love you (and your family and friends) to bring life to our gentle giants 💕
