Brewing Massachusetts - How Beer Shaped the Bay State.
The exhibit will be show cased in the rebuilt 18th century tavern on 107 Main Street in the heart of Old Deerfield, MA until October 31st
From the Puritans to the present, no state has been more impacted by brewing than Massachusetts, and no event was more impacted by brewing than the Revolution. Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association will host “Brewing Massachusetts” an exhibition in a rebuilt Revolutionary-era tavern that tells this fascinating story and its long-lasting effects. It will feature rare historic objects and tell the stories of the men and women who made this history. This will be supported by a statewide “Brewing the Revolution” scavenger hunt, bringing people to historic taverns and sites across Massachusetts that connect brewing to the Revolution.
“Brewing Massachusetts,” a museum exhibit showcasing over four centuries of Mass brewing history. It will tell the story of brewing in Mass through rare artifacts, photographs, and documents.
The exhibit will be supported by an app-based “Brewing the Revolution Scavenger Hunt” that will take participants to historic taverns and beer- related sites across the state. Players will complete challenges to win prizes. The scavenger hunt will be free to play.

Lucy Terry Prince, beautifully depicted here by Belinda Lyons Zucker, became free as a young woman in Deerfield. But she didn’t live to see the end of slavery.

Today we celebrate the end of slavery with Juneteenth. On this day in 1865 Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free.

Flag Day is celerbated on June 14th every year to commemorate the signing of the Flag Act by the Second Continential Congress in 1777 which adpoted an offical design for the flag of the newly created United States of America.

This universally recognized design is often replicated to show patriotic enthusiam. A beautiful example of this is a Tavern Sign for the Root Tavern of Montague.

"Brewing Massachusetts: How Beer shaped the Bay State" has the Root Tavern Sign on display and is open today from 11:00am to 4:30pm. No better way to celebrate Flag Day if you ask us. See you there!
