We are lucky enough to have a handful of Barbies designed by the late great Bob Mackie in our "Barbie - All Dolled Up" exhibit.

Mackie and Carol Burnett worked closely together for 11 years on her variety show. Mackie created the iconic "Curtain Dress" in her "Went with the Wind" parody skit and then memorialized the dress with the "Carol Burnett - Went with the Wind" Barbie. Come see it in person as well as many more Barbies created by Bob Mackie.

Thank you for the beauty Bob. You will be missed.

Recognize this dress? We don't!

We came across this beautiful dress while inventorying our textile collection. We don't know who made it, who owned it, or where they wore it. It seems to date to the 1860s, but it's story it lost. Maybe one day we'll find an old note card describing its origins. Until then, we will preserve it in storage!

Things in Deerfield are going south... to Alabama!

In two weeks our curator will present a lecture on one of the most significant items in our collection - George Fuller's 1858 sketchbook from his stay in Alabama. The lecture is being hosted by Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill

This fascinating talk will focus on Fuller's detailed sketches of enslaved people, why they were significant then, and why they're even more significant today.
