The Historical Society of Greenfield invites its members to its 119th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 6:00 pm in the Community Room of the Greenfield Public Library. A brief business meeting is planned, to include the election of Board members whose terms are expiring and the election of any new Board members who have been nominated to join.



This will be followed by a lecture at 6:30 by Tim Blagg who will speak on Greenfield Guns: Militia Fi****ms in the Revolution.

Wednesday at the Greenfield Public Library, we had a talk about why and how to keep a diary. Using examples from the Historical Society's collection and some of her own, Sandra Haynes talked about the reasons and many ways to keep a diary. One member of the audience came with her grandmother's actual diary in its box and shared it with Sandra at the display table. It was a great evening. Thanks to Sandra and to all who attended.

The scene at this year's ice cream social was decidedly different with our rainy Greenfield weather. Spirits were never dampened at this historic occasion. We had Lindsey and the Llamas playing on the porch, our volunteers guiding visitors inside, and plenty of ice cream to last the afternoon. Thanks to all who came, all who helped, and to Greenfield Savings Bank for being our sponsor!

The Ice Cream Social is on for noon to 3. We have tents. Live music with Lindsey and the Llamas, two kinds of ice cream from Ice Cream Alley, and the gallery rooms inside 43 Church Street in Greenfield await your enjoyment. We do this every year on the Saturday closest to the birthday of Mary P. Wells Smith, our founder.

The Historical Society has open hours on Saturdays from noon to 3 pm all summer. In honor of the 250th, the Benton Hall exhibits include the wheel of a captured British cannon and a powder horn from the Revolution.
