🎪 WANTED: A Few People to Be the Energy of the Fairgrounds’ New Mascot

The Franklin County Fairgrounds is looking for a few energetic humans to bring our brand-new mascot to life this season.

The costume will be unveiled to the public in late April, and we need the right people ready to step into the suit and bring the fun.

This is not a normal job.

You will be wearing a hot mascot costume.
You will be dancing with children.
You will be high-fiving strangers.
You may pose for hundreds of photos with people who are far more excited to see you than you expected.

But if you love making people laugh and don’t mind being the center of attention… this might be the job for you.

Details:
🎉 Various hours at periodic events throughout the summer
📅 Most hours will take place at the 4–5 large seasonal events, primarily on evenings and weekends
📏 Best suited for someone around 5'8" for costume fit
💲 $22 per hour

No mascot experience required — enthusiasm is the real qualification.

📩 Interested?

This is turning out to be the best year EVER for finding people with Fair connections! The latest is Maggie Haigis, the granddaughter of John W. Haigis, president of the Franklin County Agricultural Society during the 1920s and ‘30s.

Mr. Haigis, who was instrumental in the founding of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County, was also the president of WHAI, a trustee of the University of Massachusetts from 1956-1975, and chairman of the UMass committee on buildings and grounds from 1963-1972. In 1964, he chaired a fund drive to expand the Franklin County Public Hospital into the Franklin Medical Center (now Baystate Franklin). Ever been to the Whitmore building at UMass? You probably walked across the Haigis Mall to get there!

Thanks for letting us share this photo, Maggie and folks, keep those stories coming!

Wow, this year’s Fair just keeps on giving!

Today we had Caroline Page, the great-great granddaughter (and her daughters, the great-great-GREAT granddaughters) of Frances Stanbridge, “Best Girl Jockey” of 1911, written about in the November 19, 1911 edition of the Boston Sunday Post. If we had a photo of Frances, we’d be over the moon; please let us know if you have one or ever see one.

Remember, we’re always looking for cool new Fair-related items for our beloved little museum!

Our second visitor with a personal connection was Meaghan Brown, who found a photo of her grandmother riding the carousel. We have to admit, Meaghan, that snap is one of favorite images in the Museum, and we sure would like a better-quality version of it if there’s one kicking around! Thanks for sharing your story with us!

On the second day of the Fair, we were excited to welcome two visitors with personal connections to items in the Fair Museum!

The first was Sharon Abbott, who found not one, not two, but THREE ribbons she won in 1971 and 1972 hanging on our wall. She won a third, a second, and Western Junior Champion | Reserve Champion, with her horse Yakima’s Blue Chip! Thank you SO much, Sharon, for sharing your stories with us!

Dearest Fair Museum friends,

When we set the hours for the Museum we forgot that virtually everyone wants to see the amazing, spectacular, unparalleled Fair Parade! For this reason, we were unable to get volunteers for the time of the Parade; we'll be open as soon as the Parade is over.

Thanks for your understanding, we can't wait to see you!

We're open for another hour and we have ELECTRIC FANS! Come see photos of giant oxen and stand in front of a fan! 😘
