The Friends of the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial went back to help at the Ross Fire at Possum Kingdom today. After 3 weeks of burning it is now 83% contained. The fire has burned 90,000+ acres of Palo Pinto in Parker County. Many of the volunteers are on their way home now after fighting 24/7. Around 20 states came to help Texas fight this enormous fire. One team of fighters came from the Bakersfield CA area. They are all farm workers picking grapes, oranges, lemons, cotton and others labor jobs. Two years ago Juan Moreno had a vision to help these young men better their lives through volunteer fire stations. This week they had their first opportunity to experience helping fight a major fire. Now his vision has grown to a 20 men team. Thank you Bill, Jose, Lupe, and myself for volunteering to help our follow Man. Today's detail was the chow-line. There was brisket, lasagna, salad, beans, ribs, and lots of awesome desserts, all donated by local folks. They have served 3 meals a day everyday. We are so blessed in having being able to do a good thing for all these fighter. May the Lord get them home safe and richly bless them and their families.
