The CAF B-29/B-24 Squadron was created in the 1970s to oversee the maintenance and operation of two of the rarest aircraft in the world: one of two airworthy B-29 Superfortresses "FIFI", and the oldest and only flying B-24A Liberator "Diamond Lil". The squadron operates these two iconic aircraft to honor America’s military aviation and veterans through flight and exhibition. Since October 2021 the

Squadron is based at the Commemorative Air Force National Air Base in Dallas, Texas. When the aircraft are not on the road touring the United States, they will be on display at the Henry B. Here's a update on Diamond Lil!

The B-24 Liberator continues to make great progress as our maintenance team works through the final stages of preparing this historic aircraft for her return to the skies!

Over the past several months, significant work has been completed, including resealing the fuel tanks and inspecting and servicing the flight control systems. These important investments help ensure that this 85-year-old warbird remains airworthy for years to come.

As with any aircraft of this age, maintenance timelines often shift, but our current plan is for Lil to make her 2026 tour debut in Chattanooga, TN, beginning August 3.

Once maintenance is complete, our crews will begin test flights and training before taking Lil on the road. We know many of you have been eagerly awaiting her return, and we appreciate your patience and support. Every decision we make is guided by one priority: ensuring Diamond Lil is 100% ready before she leaves home.

Progress continues every day, and we're looking forward to welcoming you aboard again soon!

Join us in wishing a happy birthday to the USA that's older than the USA! 😉

Established as the Continental Army on 14 June 1775, the US Army predates the Declaration of Independence by more than a year, making it older than the nation it would help create.

Just two weeks after its 132nd birthday, the Army would begin an aviation lineage that carries through to the present day:

✪ 1 Aug 1907: Creation of the Aeronautical Division, Signal Corps
✪ 18 Jul 1914: Aviation Section, Signal Corps
✪ 20 May 1918: Division of Military Aeronautics
✪ 24 May 1918: Air Service, U.S. Army
✪ 2 Jul 1926: United States Army Air Corps (USAAC)
✪ 20 Jun 1941: United States Army Air Forces (USAAF)

Even after the independent US Air Force was created in 1947, the Army retained an Aviation Branch, which today operates over 4300 aircraft, roughly 4000 of which are helicopters. In fact, the Army operates more helicopters than the air forces of most nations operate aircraft of all types combined. Army Aviation is one of the largest aviation organizations in the world.

We meet some awesome people on the road, like cosplayer Taylor Pettitt who came to see us in North Carolina as Marvel’s Captain Carter. Should be a recruiting poster, right? 😎

For those of you unfamiliar with the character, the Marvel Show "What If...?" shows an animated divergent timeline where Steve Rogers is injured before he can receive the serum to become Captain America, prompting Peggy Carter to step into the chamber instead. She is later thrust decades into the future and becomes a founding member of the Guardians of the Multiverse. The concept proved so popular that it was adapted into Marvel Comics, where Peggy is brought into the modern day instead of Steve Rogers and operates as a hero in the United Kingdom.
