CH Spurgeon said, ...

They shall no longer every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. (Jeremiah 31:34)

Whatever we do not know, we do know the Lord. This promise is true in our experience. The least believer among us knows God in Christ Jesus. We not only know doctrines about Him, but we know Him. He is our Father and our Friend. We can say, "My Lord, and my God." We are on close fellowship with God, and many happy seasons do we spend in His company. We are not strangers to God, but the secrets of the Lord are with us. Flesh and blood has not revealed God to us. Christ Jesus had made known the Father to our hearts; to know God is eternal life. My soul, rejoice in this knowledge, and bless your God all day!

CH Spurgeon said, ...

Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of Your righteousness. (Psalm 51:14)

In this SOLEMN CONFESSION, we observe that David plainly names his sin. He does not call it manslaughter, nor speak of an unfortunate accident to a worthy man, but he calls it by its true name, bloodguiltiness. He did not actually kill Uriah, but it was planned in David's heart that he should be killed, and he was before the Lord a murderer. Learn in confession to be honest with God. Do not give fair names to foul sins, they will smell no sweeter. Observe that David was oppressed with the heinousness of his sin. Let us seek after the brokenness of heart, for however excellent our words may be, if our heart is not conscious of the hell-deservingness of sin, we cannot expect to find forgiveness. This scripture has in it AN EARNEST PRAYER—it is addressed to the God of salvation. It is His prerogative to forgive. The psalmist ends with A COMMENDABLE VOW; if God will deliver him, he will sing and "sing aloud." Who can sing in any other way of such a mercy as this! But note the subject of the song, "YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." We must sing of the finished work of a precious Saviour, and he who knows most of forgiving love will sing the loudest.
