Thank you, Steve Litt, for coming to The Sculpture Center and writing about our exhibitions.
"By exploring the possibilities of soft sculpture, Nguyen has placed himself within a venerable tradition in modern and contemporary art. Earlier examples of the genre include Claes Oldenburg’s soft toilets, hamburgers and toothpaste tubes. Nguyen’s interest in bold patterns and curvy, feminine forms brings to mind bulbous boldly colored sculptures of women by French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle." -Steven Litt, cleveland.com

In "Inured," Zachary Smoker presents a collection of altered mass-produced objects and de-monetized U.S. currency that speaks to our relationship with material culture, the inherently violent, anti-democratic nature of capitalism, and the power structures it employs.

Zachary Smoker is a studio artist based out of Cleveland, Ohio. He received his BFA in Sculpture in 2011 from The Cleveland Institute of Art and his MFA in Visual Art in 2013 from Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art at Washington University in St. Louis.

Sculptor and performance artist, Nalani Stolz, explores the universal feelings of inhabiting an ever-shifting form of the human body. Through sculptural manifestations, she reclaims domestic skills and processes to explore gendered emotional and physical experiences such as weeping, menstruation, miscarriage, and pregnancy. Her work embodies the fragility and tenderness found in everyday tasks, using materials like rising dough, fermented membranes, cloth, clay, wax, and water to convey expansion, constriction, and release.
Stolz has shown at Woman Made Gallery, The South Bend Museum of Art, What Gallery, and Urban Arts Space and received her MFA from The Ohio State University.

“Arsham’s multifarious collaborations now include sharing his global spotlight and influence with a small but important cultural nonprofit in Cleveland with rising ambitions, and, thanks to the artist, a new relationship with the city’s NBA team. The show is not exactly a swish with nothing but net, but there’s much to recommend it.”

News alert! 🚨🚨🚨The Sculpture Center has relocated its galleries and offices to 12210 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH! Just 200 feet from our former location, and still in Cleveland’s “Contemporary Corridor” in University Circle, this move accommodates the growth in our offerings and enables us to showcase larger, more comprehensive exhibitions while still giving ample space for early career artists’ installations. In the meantime, we are hard at work addressing the accessibility concerns of the historic structure and we look forward to reopening our doors and welcoming you to our new home in November.

For more information about our move and the latest upcoming exhibition announcements, please check our website (sculpturecenter.org).
