In Indiana, a free fossil park where you can dig up 440-million-year-old treasures makes geology feel like a casual weekend hobby.

Welcome to the eerie and abandoned 1907 Bow Tunnel, once used by the Pennsylvania Railroad until 1950. What looks like a glowing crowd of crystal statues are actually spectacular icy stalagmites! They form during the freezing winter months when groundwater slowly drips from the tunnel's ceiling and instantly freezes upon hitting the freezing floor, building up layer by layer into these towering ice pillars. A beautiful, chilling example of nature reclaiming a man-made structure! 🚂🧊

Off the coast of Australia, a real-life “sea dragon” has emerged — intact, connected, and finally able to tell its story. 🐉

Paleontologists have discovered the country’s first complete Elasmosaur fossil, dating back 100 million years. Remarkably, its head remains attached to its body — an extremely rare find.

Picture a predator with a neck longer than a giraffe’s, four powerful flippers, and rows of sharp teeth, gliding through the vast inland sea that once covered much of Australia.

Most elasmosaurs are found scattered in fragments. This one, however, was preserved in oxygen-poor mud, locking it in extraordinary detail. Now, scientists can study how it moved, what it ate, and where it fits in the ancient marine world.

A stunning reminder that Australia’s prehistoric seas were once ruled by giants.
