The Henson Center is so proud to be part of this incredible community project! Some of our former students came together to help install the cement blocks that are holding each installation. What a feat of community!

Come check one of the installations on our very own property!

The Henson Heritage and Training Center is thankful to receive a $10,000 grant from South Jersey Resiliency Fund, funded by the Community Foundation of South Jersey!

Their bottom line is that “SJ nonprofits urgently need support at a time when their role is more crucial than ever. These organizations feed, heal, shelter, educate, inspire, enlighten, and nurture residents across diverse demographics”.

We are incredibly honored to be recognized among our community in this way, and will be using this funding to help build the future of tradespeople in South Jersey.

The Henson Center is now at full capacity until 2027, and we urgently need your help! Pictured are just four out of (an incredible) 62 responses on our program application.

We want to fill our workshop with these South Jersey residents ready to make a difference in their life, career, and community. Unfortunately, due to funding, our cohorts can only hold 12 students at a time, for a 10-week long period.

We’re calling on our community to help us take the next step! Donate today, and your gift will help us get to our future: hiring another carpentry instructor, expanding our program offerings, and opening the door for more students.

Their motivations are real. We just need the resources to support them. Donate today: https://bit.ly/hhtcdonate

The “basics” of carpentry doesn’t start with handling tools… it starts with math. In addition to hands-on learning, our students participate in a “Math for Carpentry and Construction” course taught by our director, Tom Kulp.

Following the workbook by Richard B. Miles, this curriculum provides a practical approach to learn important math skills and troubleshooting skills that will be used in carpentry shops and construction sites. This is vital information that helps equip students for their future careers! 📐🛠

Heatwaves don’t stop our students! 💪

In the dead of the summer heat, Cohort 13 completed their final project of a large-scale residential custom shed project. This project started by building walls onsite, and then transported to the site to construct (our first major project like this!).

We ceremoniously marked the end of the project with some well earned ice pops. Way to go Cohort 13!

Last week, the graduates of our 13th cohort were treated to a wonderful lunch and tour at Saddlehill Winery by the owner, Bill Green. It was a big day for the Henson Center- even Mayor Carstarphen of Camden County Government stopped by to congratulate our students!

While it was an awesome chance to celebrate, we also got to take a trip down memory lane. Pictured behind our students is a one-of-a-kind wine bottle display that was built by Cohort 11 last year!

Thank you to Saddlehill for your hospitality and continued support!

Happy 250th birthday, America!

The Henson Center partnered with Revolution NJ, The Camden County Historical Society, American Revolution Museum Of Southern New Jersey, and UrbanPromise BoatWorks to create a cage bar, replicating what would have been common in a 1770s Tavern. Isn’t it awesome?

You can find this amazing project tomorrow at the grand opening of the newly restored Benjamin Cooper Tavern, located on 75 Erie Street in Camden! 🍻

If you’ve driven by, you’ve noticed that big things have been happening at the Henson Center! Our students have been building panelized walls for a large-scale residential custom shed project. This marks the first time our program has manufactured a structure that can be transported and assembled onsite.

This is super exciting for the future of what skills our program can offer to teach to our students! Most importantly, it gives them hands-on experience with advanced construction techniques and real-world building projects. Stay tuned for the finished product!
