The Battleship New Jersey is the longest, fastest, most decorated battleship in history. From 1943 to 1991, she served in WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War, and the Persian Gulf. The mission of the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is to restore, preserve, and exhibit the continuing history of the USS New Jersey and those who worked and served on her so their service will continue to educate and inspire future generations.

Today we had the opportunity to visit the Battleship New Jersey to learn about where our military has been, and more importantly, to understand where we can go. It was awesome to see the most technologically advanced power projection platform of its time, and to think about the personality and resolve the crew must have had to leverage the ship as a weapons platform.
It appears we find ourselves in a similar transitional period of history. I look forward to implementing the lessons learned as we refine our ability to command and control our weapons systems in the battlespace, and I'm excited to validate that ability during .

A ship’s broadside is defined as: the battery of cannon on one side of a warship or their coordinated fire in naval warfare, or a measurement of a warship's maximum simultaneous firepower which can be delivered upon a single target.
For an Iowa class ship such as Battleship New Jersey, by the 1980’s the maximum number of guns that could be brought to bear on a broadside is 15 (9 main and 6 secondary [2 barrels x 3 turrets]). There is no angle whereby all the ship’s main and secondary guns can be brought to bear on a single target.

The Battleship New Jersey successfully defended the ship from an “attack” of a replica WWII Japanese Dive Bomber today. The plane made several passes and the ship fired her portside Quad 40 and 5-inch guns. The “attack” was part of the Battleship’s annual WWII Victory Day.
