Heritage DiscoveRY Center Buffalo Preserving the railroad, maritime, and industrial heritage of Western New York since June 2010.

The Heritage DiscoveRY Center is dedicated to the preservation of the railroad, maritime and industrial heritage of Western New York. Current member organizations include the Western New York Railway Historical Society, the Steel Plant Museum of Western New York, the Buffalo Lighthouse Association, Buffalo Irish Genealogical Society, the Erie Lackawanna Railroad Historical Society, the Buffalo Geological Society, and the Nickel Plate Road Technical & Historical Society.

The "Big Boy" wasn't the only locomotive to send a steamy message trackside....
Tonight, make tracks for the Heritage Discovery Center at 7:00 pm for a look back at the American Freedom Train as it passed through WNY over Fifty Years ago.
Featuring the photography of John M. Marriott and others from the WNYRHS Archives.
Meeting is open to the public, doors open at 5:00 pm and program starts at 7:00 pm.

The Heritage Discovery Center will be closed July 4th,2026 to allow our members to celebrate the Semiquincentennial!

We will reopen Tuesday, July 7th at 10:00 am.

Thanks to everyone who came to our big boy watch party on June 9.
If you picked up two lawn chairs that were left behind on the parking lot lawn, please consider dropping them off at HDC as we now know who they belong to and can return them.
Also, if you lost a set of car keys, we found a set on the parking lot. We have them in our Lost and Found.
There is a meeting tonight at HDC featuring Canadian railroads as photographed by Greg Lund.
